Zaluska was a pleasant surprise for some tonight . St Johnstone threw everything at the Celtic goals but their was no way they were getting pass Zaluska . Big Ambrose was also very good, as was young Tierney in his first match .
All in all an enjoyable match that could have finished with 3/4 goals to both teams .

Remember him v Liverpool pre season, dont know what the trouble is with him maybe the bottle rumours are true? Did enjoy the game as well.I also thought we done okay considering the changes. The young bhoy? Jury still out for me.I thought the kid was culpable for the goal Dundee and at times looked shaky.having said that you have to give him the benefit if nerves kicking in,first Celtic at Seventeen? I would be shi**ing myself.

Don't think Zulaska has ever really let us down. I think he clearly wants to be a Celt and he's a smashing backup. Be a shame if he left, but understandable.

Zaluska MoM for me. Only him and Brown with real pass marks.

Not sure about Ambrose at all Chris. Made a couple good clearances but the guy just seems to get stuck under his own feet all the time, got mixed up with Tierney and Denayer a few times and I actually think he both allows and encourages opponents to have a go.

youtube.com/watch?v=nCXWUGqLLcQ

Just watch that from the 1 minute mark lol. Textbook.

Tierney like you say had some encouraging spells. Commons was having one of his counterproductive games again and as bright as Forrest seemed he still needs a more consistent final product. Should have scored two imo and needs to start picking people out with crosses. GMS and Armstrong were sloppy. Griffiths tried but overall far too many hopeful or stray long balls to this lad.

Obviously a few in holiday mode already.

Jim Jim , I can understand what you say about Ambrose , he seems to be beaten rather easily from time to time , but he never gives up and with his pace, he nearly always seems to recover . It's his recovering bad situations is what I like best about him. I know this site hasn't been too hard on him, but other Celtic forums have really went over the top criticising him . I will be very happy if we have better defenders than him for next season and have Ambrose as back-up.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2015 15:42:24
Said from fairly early on chris if he didn't have pace he wouldn't be a pro. The game at the minute it's one hell of an attribute. But he does not seem to have developed the basics of defending. Which is his number one job. At 26 there's still time for his position to do that but his positioning at times is rotten. Lost count of the occasions he's missed point blank headers or been shrugged off. If he uses that pace and just gets himself in the way then he can block a shot or allow a second man to come in and that's ok but also he tries beyond his ability to be an attacking centre back. His runs forward are often fruitless, leaving the team on the back foot and those fancy turns against approaching attackers will cost us, because he's honestly quite clumsy. I've actually been more impressed with him when he's played RB. He has that pace as well as height and I actually think he's a fairly good passer up to mid distance. And yeah to be fair I wouldn't mind him as cover because of his versatility and pace. Same goes for Mulgrew (not because of his pace though, obviously). We'll be healthier if those two are options off of the bench rather than starters. CL qualification is RDs next objective. Simple as that. The conundrum though is not just getting in another CB, but wether or not to play them ahead of Ambrose or Mulgrew. IF Virgil leaves too then who knows what we're going to do. My first option would be to start the qualifiers with both VVD and Denayer. But it's seeming fairly obvious that won't be the case.

16 May 2015 18:32:45
Jim Jim , he didn't carry he ball forward aimlessly last night . I am not accusing you., but many posters seem to go back a season or two when judging Ambrose . I think Ambrose is one of the players who has really improved under Deila and he has cut out most of his weaker , or lack of concentration moments especially since the turn of the year . Last night I thought he was better than Denagher or Mulgrew .

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2015 20:41:57
That'd a fair point chris and I should have mentioned he has cut that down under RD.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2015 22:18:30
Maybe Jim Jim we could agree that Ambrose is by no means one of the centre halves we would want to have as first choice next season , we would be well served if we had him as back- up.

@DN30 thanks for the reference mate, I am used to the criticism, it goes with the territory as I put my neck on the line, as long as people like yourself make a few bob, (when I get it right, mostly on footie, NOT blooming horses lol) then I am happy. Last night some bookies were giving 9/4 and better hope your bet won.

I have to say best man on the park tonight in my opinion was the Ref can't believe me saying that but he had a good game well done

I wouldn't praise the referee for last night's performance . I thought he was hard on us , a couple of time he blew the whistle when we were certainly going into a dangerous position , only to give us a free .
The booking of Commons was ridiculous , if he didn't know the St Johnstone player had moved the ball out four or five yards to gain a better angle , he shouldn't be refereeing . The ground was cut up where the free occurred and that would have been a marker for anyone who knew the first thing about refereeing .
God help us if we are going to praise that .

Maybe you are doing a spot of fishing?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2015 15:54:56
I would have to disagree Chris yes he did some mistakes but he did that to the both of us and he did try to let the game flow.
Refs have a hard job to do and I think we have to give credit when credit is due FAR FAR better than some of the others we have had in the past so well done to him

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2015 16:03:48
I would say he was no better or worse than most of the honest mistake merchants and he really riled Brown and Armstrong to name just a couple of players who were flabbergasted by some decisions. As per usual, I still see Celtic receive very, very few 50/50 decisions and some very peculiar ones against us.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 May 2015 18:37:27
Jungle Jim you are so right . To be honest I could not give him any praise. He may have let St Johnstone play on with advantage but he certainly was very pernickety when Celtic were in advance position .
I am sure he was smiling after he booked Brown .

Celtic have been keeping an eye on Man City defender Dedryck Boyata and according to reports this afternoon Celtic have firmed up their interest in the player.

It's believed Ronny Deila and Peter Lawwell spoke to the player and his representatives yesterday about signing for Celtic this summer.

Dedryck has found first team opportunities hard to come by at the Etihad and is reportedly ready to move on in search of first team football. His current City deal end in the summer of 2016 so a don't be surprised if Celtic look to go down the loan route.

ED007 the other day I listened to a debate (well Radio Clyde don't do debates, only ramblings from their presenters lol) but gist of it was they were pushing for the Hearts owner Anne Budge to get on one of the SFA committees, at first glance this would seem a good idea with all her good work at making the jam tarts viable again and her undoubted business acumen, but what troubles me is her "myopia" where her own club's fans are concerned, all the troubles are other fans, and in her eyes that means Celtic fans, but I would even say that visiting Tynecastle is worse than going to Ibrox. No until Mrs Budge, does just that, budge on her silly views no way should be near the SFA making decisions, Mr ogilvie is doing nicely putting the "unionist" views across without her help

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Rangers EBT recipient Ogilvie will be replaced as SFA President in the summer and that can only be good for Scottish football.}

15 May 2015 18:49:09
We thought when we were getting rid of Ogilivie's predecessor Pleat , that things could only get better, but it was from bad to worse .

Seen the bosman link to 29yr old leeds mf Austin online today. I can't recall seeing him play. Youtube looked decent but always does, he did seem to be quick and good at tackling (brown spl cover?) He has been fairly regular in the leeds side over the last couple of years. The fan forums tell a different story, none of the fans seem too keen. Honest hard working pro it seems but poor final ball, awareness, makes mistakes regularly and they were wanting him out so they could bring in players of a higher standard! Not too promising :)

Time are you picking these just on the names or are they worth a punt?

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2015 13:15:51
@JimTim yes I like the names but all 3 horses I have put up were also tipped by more knowledgeable people than myself, the two previous ones were destined for the Oaks (won) and the Derby (bombed big time some big hitters lost a bundle on JFK yesterday, not me lol) today's tip is also being touted in some papers but at 7/1 and 5 places worth an each way punt as even if it comes 5th you get back all your stake plus a SMALL profit and if it wins. well a nice wee cash boost for the weekend

Both these two Celtic gentlemen were great Celtic midfielders . Anyone in their late 30's or older would know just how wonderful a footballer Tommy Burns was . Those of us who are of more advance years appreciate just how brilliant Bobby Murdoch was . Indeed it was often said whenMurdoch played well ( which was almost always ) Celtic played well.
It is fitting that we should never forget two of our best ever players and may God have Mercy on them both.
