Just seen on tv that Robert Huth is available on loan from Stoke. I think he would be a perfect foil for VVD, Denayer and Ambrose. Not the quickest but someone who would command the penalty area and allow the others who are better on the ball to do just that. Only 30 so plenty of years left and good experience at a high level. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Out of all the defenders from EPL out of contract in the summer I liked Terry, Ferdinand, Hangeland, Distin, Baird worth a short contract or Huth on loan. Players like Figueroa or Assou Ekotto at LB too or Palacios or Mulumbu are hard working midfielders all worth short contracts

Agree0 Disagree0

None of the above for me, we are not a retirement fund for any of them

Agree2 Disagree0

So Commons doesn't belong at Celtic because he's over 30? Apart from the CBs the rest are all younger than KC. I'm guessing with that theory come the summer we should get shot of Brown because he will be in that retirement bracket (30)

Saw the Huth story yesterday and thought he could do a turn for us but feared posting it for being shot down. Not the quickest but a big physical presence at the back who would chip in with a few goals too.

The centerbacks are 5 of the 8 players you named lol , and I agree none of the above for me . We need young hungry players not ones looking to top up their pensions.

Agree1 Disagree0

Most of the players mentioned are 3 years older than Commons

Agree0 Disagree0

I named nine Fab1 as well as Huth for loan. I guess the one on your name is all you know how to count up to? Lubo was 32/33 when he signed, with that attitude we would miss out on players like him. Can't always buy young as they lack big game experience and some will bottle it in CL

Agree0 Disagree0

The difference between lubo and the centerhalfs that you name who have all one thing in that they all are slower than a week in the jail and most have been droped from their current team because they are liability's, should be obvious to anyone . Its clowns like you who whine about not signing players that sly tv has told them are good , who are holding our own young players back.

Agree1 Disagree0

You are the clown if you think John Terry is a liability I will never take anything you say seriously as of now as you know **** all about football

I said MOST and if you think we could afford even a quarter of terrys wages I rest my case in the clown hunt .

As for young players bottling it on the big stage I seem to remember a young Gordon matshal being pitched in against barca , Liam miller against anderlecht , our young cb Frazer in the Europa league all of whom excelled. Even young McGregor was probably our best player in the euro qualifiers earlier this season . So can you with your infinite football knowledge name me just ONE young player who we have pitched into a big game who has "bottled it "?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2015 12:02:05
Also ( I know I'm keeping you busy this morning ed , last point before I go to see the game 😊).if terry is out of contract do you think it's because Chelsea can't afford his wages or that they don't think he is worth the money he is looking for or jose does not think he can cut it at the top level, the champ league . If it's either of the first 2 then anyone with any brains would know it's a no go for us and if it's the last one then you yourself has ruled him out with your next post , so why even include him on your list?

Fernando Torres scored twice, yes TWICE in the Madrid derby tonight.

here we go, my assessment of the current squad. Think RD said 20/21 players not inc youngsters for next year so a big number will have to go over this window and the summer. Its all very Fantasy Football like, but easiest way to sum it all up

GK(2) Gordon, NEW

CB(3) VVD, Denayor, Ambrose

FB(3) Izze, Matthews, Lustig

CM(4) Brown, Biton, Mulgrew, NEW

CAM(2) Commons, Johansen

L/RM(4) Forrest, NEW x2

ST (4) Guidetti, Scepovic, Griffiths, Pukki

OUT - Wakaso, Tonev, Kayal, Zaluska, Balde, Stokes, McGregor, Boerrighter

IN - GK, Denayor, CDM, Guidetti, LM/RM

If effe/VVD were to leave then we would need another CB obviously.

Apart from that we still have youngsters Henderson, Rogic, Twardzik, Fisher, Oconnell, Fraser, Waters, McGeouch to add to the squad.

For me the CM is the most important as we need someone who can take the pressure off brown a bit. Not a fan of Biton either so personally would sell him if we were to sign quality.

Stokes out LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

Anton, I can't imagine it happening but for me he does not do enough, especially if we did sign guidetti. This season he has been playing wide left so maybe that's his new place in the squad.

Do you think he has done enough over the years to warrant still being our striker or did you just find it funny.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Edinbhoy I'd agree with all of that except Forrest, what has he done to warrant any fan having faith in him? He turns 24 in July, hes constantly injured or waiting to get injured and when he does play he rarely plays any better than "average". He couldn't stay fit under Lennon and he can't stay fit under Ronny. It's well past the time for him to move and surely there's an English Championship or League One team who would give us a couple of mill for him ED007.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I doubt there would be a queue to sign Forrest, why would anyone spend money on somebody so injury prone, would you be happy if CFC signed a player with his record? Just look at Boerrigter, up to the start of this season Boerrigter played more games than Forrest over the previous 4 seasons yet the Dutchman is nicknamed 'Sicknote' and 'Tampon'. And when he does play you know it's just a matter of time before he's injured again.
With Forrest's contract up next summer (2016) he's one player I'm really hoping Pedro plays hardball with when it comes to contract negotiations, if there is any negotiations, I don't think it would be a bad bit of business just letting his contract run down and letting him go for free if he continues down the path his career is currently on, I'm sure Kilmarnock would be interested in him if he was a free, he's from that neck of the woods.
The one thing I'm glad about is that he wasn't a CFC player back in the '90s, without the Jock Stein and Lisbon Lions stands he wouldn't know when to stop running, he'd either end up in Uddingston or down The Gallowgate - if he didn't get injured during the run!}

What set of fans Nicknamed Derk Tampon us or Ajax? Agree Ed when Forrest is back all the fans are wondering how long he will last. He looked promising but think others in SPL have overtook him like McGinn, Pawlett, GMS was always better so its best he goes if we get GMS. What sort of wage is Forrest on ED?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Off the top of my head I remember when he signed his last contract in 2011 the talk was his wages went up to the £8-10k a week mark and could go up every year if he met certain targets. I don't know what the targets were but I'd guess at things like the amount of matches he plays, helping the club to win trophies, qualifying for Europe and gaining Scotland caps, stuff like that to reward progression. Whether he has ever done enough to warrant any the rises would be debatable.}

EdinBhoy still think we need another CB and LB unless Mulgrew is used for cover but with Denayer out injured and one of the duo pull up we only have youth to cover and if that's during the CL process we will be out. Agree with your OUT players although I'd punt Pukki and get a powerful pacy ST. GMS and Armstrong would be good additions not sure if this Benali is any good? Although I would rather we saved the money and gave Rogic a chance. We manage to do this most fans will be very happy

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks ED that's not that much I thought he would be on a lot higher what about the Tampon I imagine his are pretty high coming from Ajax to SPL?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Now that I don't know but wages in Holland aren't that good compared to other leagues. At Feyenoord no player is paid more than 800,000 Euros (£635,000), their total wage-bill in 2012/13 was 12 million Euros (£9.5m) which is the fifth-biggest in the Netherlands and half of what PSV and Ajax pay. CFC's wage bill is circa £35 million, although that is going down.
I'm babbling here, I'd have a guess that Boerrigter will be somewhere around the £7-10k a week but that is just a guess.}

That's a decent market for us then I didn't think they was that low. Only thing with Dutch league is it makes average strikers look prolific so that's not particularly wise to be getting defenders from there good job VVD was an exception.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2015 06:14:30
We haven't done too badly with Dutch strickers piere and venagoor spring to mind and even the best ever came from their league , now Scandinavian strickers that's a poor market , with the one obvious swede exception.

{Ed001's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Ronny Deila says duo will be at Celtic until the summer

So celtic & Dundee utd are in the exact same position.

Us with commons and united with GMS. The only difference is the age.

We won't let commons go unless we GMS in,
Money in to cover the money spent.

Surprise!! Surprise!

I'm surprised we don't have any one out the door yet we need to downsize the squad too many sick notes. I hope Dudu Dahan can get Kayal a move maybe team up with his pal Balde at Hapoel. Who else would people like to see leave? I think we should lose Boerrigter, Tonev, Pukki, Fridjonsson, Kayal, This window and try bring in replacements this window for areas we are needing strengthened. We will lose VVD and Denayer in summer at latest so we need a CB in this window and one in summer. Balde, Commons, Wakaso and perhaps Matthews in summer and still need cover at LB that's a lot of the squad gone and a lot of areas needing covered I can see a lot of loans again in summer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't decide whether Pukki is superfluous or not. Would like to see if he could work with Guidetti, or even Griffiths.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we signed Guidetti, we would have him, Scepovic, stokes, griffiths, pukki, balde, fridjonsen.

Unless stokes is now considered a LW which I am not a fan of then we should cut that 7 down to 4

I would sell Balde and stokes if someone would take him. Give pukki one more chance, unless we were to sign someone else. can't comment on the frij as he is young and iv never seen him play so think with Guidetti/Scepovic/Griffiths/Pukki we would have 4 strikers capable of scoring in SPL next year

Agree1 Disagree0

We are okay in forward area although only one gets the nod even four is too many. Agree I like Stokes but he's not a natural LM so there is potential to improve there. Its mainly the defensive side we are short and a powerful Wanyama like CDM needed. Team is too lightweight need power down the middle ST CAM CDM and CB

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2015 08:29:22
So celtic have been told it's going to cost them 250k GMS I hope we don't blow this one for the sake of quarter a mill surely not Ed do you think they will pay that with him having only 6 months left on his deal? I mean if we don't someone is certainly going to snap him up for that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It might depend on who leaves.}

Just get him in now. We're certain to lose earners in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2015 14:06:17
Ed are u sayin we need someone to leave so we can spend 250 grand?

{Ed007's Note - No.}
