Sorry bhoys not celtic related but had to mention rio ferdinand.

He's spent 500k on Christmas presents for underprivileged children through a charity.
He's also bought something like 500 sleeping bags for the homeless.

Always liked rio he seems a top block and i like to see these guys give something back, cracking gesture.

Fair play to Rio, I think more of the great number of players who give generously to good causes anonymously.

Agree3 Disagree4

{Ed007's Note - Is that just players or do you think less of current Celtic managers who not only feel the need to tell people he's spending Christmas morning at a hospice with the sick and their families but also felt he had to announce that he donated the money from the sale of his departed parent's house to the same hospice?}

15 Dec 2016 22:24:43
If he's selling any of his 100+ rental homes, is there any chance he will donate to keep a roof over the poor and needy of Govan this Christmas?

Agree3 Disagree1

15 Dec 2016 22:44:05
Anonymous or not its still giving back to those less fortunate and I would hope it would encourage more to do the same.

Heard a cracking story about LG last week when a young fan has asked for the same boots he wears from his dad for Christmas.
The dad sends LG a tweet asking where he can get them and LG quickfire tells him he will send him a signed pair.

That wean will never forget this Christmas and it's a long list of things LG does behind the scenes.

Oldbhoy how do you know if there is a great number of players giving generously to good causes anonymously?

No UJ, he only gives to good causes.

Some choose to be vocal, others choose to be anonymous. Regardless of the motives, their humanity and kindness is essential in making a difference. Fair play to them all.

Agree2 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - in Rio's case, and I have to say I am not a fan of the lad usually, but he did this publicly in order to raise awareness of the need for people to get involved, rather than to get personal publicity.}

16 Dec 2016 08:44:52
Well said Ed. Ronaldo, Ferdy, big stars etc. First reaction might be. They can afford it and publicity seeking tits etc. But Ed, you hit the nail on the head. These players and many more already give to established charities and take part in fundraisers. However many times when it is done (as some say, a publicity stunt, its to make people aware and help. I and thousands more like me, give time and cash to charity. Would my picture in the media do much to raise awareness? Not really (unless I was doing something weird or crazy then it would be a short column filler) . So good on RF, BR and all the superstars etc doing something.

Agree1 Disagree3

16 Dec 2016 09:38:56
Not sure I understood your reply ed007. Are you having a go at BR?

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - No mate, not at all. It's the sheer hypocrisy of Chris' s reply to the OP. According to Chris he thinks more of people who give anonymously without seeking publicity and I just wanted to know if Brendan Rodgers hase gone down in his estimations after his recent publicity about helping at a hospice at Christmas or donating the proceeds of the sale of his mother and father's house to the hospice. Why did Rodgers need to tell us - to make sure there's plenty of photographs and camera
I don't see any difference in what Ferdinand has done, they're both doing a good thing yet getting treateed differently and I'm genuinelly interested in what Chris sees differently between what Ferdinand and Rodgers have done?
If Rio wants to spend 1/2 million quid on toys then he deserves all the plaudts going, how many kids does that make happy on Christmad morn and why should people like Chris look down in them on them as if it's a publicity stunt when he obvioulsy have no idea how tough it was growing up for Rio with not much yet Bredan is pushing for a Sainthood because he'll be visiting a hospice that he gave a lot of money to.
So what is the difference, Chris?}

16 Dec 2016 14:04:22
Ah OK cheers for that.

Ed . I have no problem in saying I cringe when I read what B R is doing on Christmas morning . In general he is too fond of telling us how great a person he is .
I am quite sure I couldn't stand the man as my best friend but at the end of the day that is totally irrelevant to me as I can never will be close friends .
I. like B R simply because he is a very good manager at Celtic and is doing a very good job, as long as he doesn't bring the club into disrepute and continues to manage us well, we will get on great.
Not living in the West of Scotland I haven't got to know managers well except Martin o 'Neil whom I have known I have known since the teenage years, I don't like him but it didn't stop me appreciating his success at Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So why have a dig at Rio Ferdinand in the first place?}

16 Dec 2016 19:55:05
I can't understand Ed u seemed to want a reply and when I did u didn't print it .
Let me say I hate the way that B R let's it be known of his generousity in giving his parents house to charity . Also Christmas Morning visit to children's hospice .
I honesty think he goes over the top beyond common decency .
However my love and likeness for B R is to deal solely with his very good managing of Celtic . Winning leagues, doubles and trebles and having reasonable success with Celtic will maintain my love for him . Chasing women and having yellow teeth doesn't matter to me . Brendan& I will never be best mates, we operate. in different circles and as long as he doesn't bring the club into disrepute, I will like him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And what did Rio Ferdinand do wrong?}

16 Dec 2016 22:25:52
I think the point oldbhoy is its totally irrelevant giving to those less fortunate if it's done publicly or under the radar.

The green brigade do an annual food bank and without publicity it wouldn't be anywhere near the success that it is now.
It raises awareness mate that's all and if it encourages people to give back then there's no harm.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Dec 2016 23:54:31
For once Ed007 I just cannot believe why you ask me why I had a dig at Rio in the first place .
I made it absolutely clear that I hated the way B R made a show of him leaving the proceeds of his parents house to charity and making it known that he was visiting a Children's hospice on Christmas Day . I prefer acts of charity to be done privately without fuss, just like a certain Mr Lennon who used to be at Celtic .
I cannot understand either how some people seem to make their mind up whether they like a player or manager by things nothing to do with football ability or manage ring ability . I love B R as he is successful as our manager . I liked R D when he was Celtic manager too. I don't dislike Rio, but I didn't like the showing off of giving money to charity . Neither Brendan Rio Ronnie or Neil will care if I like them or not but the fact is I do .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Neil Lennon done his charity work privately? That's just miles out, do you know how to use Google? Theres plenty on there of Lennon's public charity work.
The rest of your post is just babbling garbage you think makes a point - it doesn't. }

16 Dec 2016 23:58:53
Tick67 fair play to Green Brigade, the club should be proud of them and the hard work their members do with the collection and distribution. Of course great praise to so many Celtic supporters who contribute food and hygiene essentials for both sexes, all done quietly and without any fuss . We should be proud of all concerned, charity at the need base .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yeah those food collections are always done quietly and with no fuss.}

17 Dec 2016 08:35:20
imo it don't matter if your doing it in the public eye or behind closed doors, the fact is they are contributing in their own way and helping out people that are in far worse situations than any of us, which should be applauded. When Ed set up a donation page for the walk a lot of posters contributed, some left messages, some didnt, one man donated a hell of a lot and some did what we could, did leaving a message make me feel better that others knew i contributed?, nope, i contributed because i wanted to, not to get a pat on the back.

The only report a seen about brendans Xmas day charity work wS in a down market rag a picked up at work and it was the actual charity talking about it there was no quotes from br anyhoo still an admiral thing regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There's quotes galore in the View where the story originated.}

17 Dec 2016 15:00:45
Surely if you know someone is doing charity work anonymously then it is actually out in the open?
Most charities prefer publicity as it raises awareness of there aims etc.

Old bhoy. You may appreciate giving ore so when it's done anonymously. You don't rate giving when it's done publicly. The recipients couldn't care less. BR will know himself his motives for " going public " with his genorosity. I do t quite know where your opinion fits in to all of this. If the recipients are better off who gives a monkeys?

No need to reply.

Ed did you say your mate was in glasnevin? Reason a ask is av just bought the grace download n was sure it was you who mentioned the band.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I know Kieran from Glasnevin socially but it's Kev the singer from An Spiorad that I've known him and his family for manay years.
I'd urge anyone who can afford to download Grace to do so as any profits sre going to the GB legal fund for defending lads who have been arrested under trumped up OFBA charges.
