Ed

It's very rare that I'm confident about a BIG Celtic match but for the first time in about 5 years I'm reasonably confident that we are going to put this to bed in the first leg by completely dominating hapoel

Key players out for them
Their own inexperience
Our improving set up
Our emphasis on attitude and mental toughness and confidence

I think there is a surety spreading across the east end for this specific match

Indeed ( perhaps ) the stars are aligning

I think we will get the balance right. We have a manager whom the opposition manager cannot predict and that sets us in good sted

They will really struggle with the stadium and a full house. When they played the Greeks the stadium was 35% full and the Greeks were in a poor way

They stumbled past sheriff and highlights suggest a lot of luck ( 3 penalties no less )

I think we have the experience and the mental toughness to get this done and I am supremely confident

Put it this way. We will ( over the 2 legs ) have more possession more corners more shots more chances more everything ( IE more of the things that normally matter over 180 minutes ) and barring some rotten luck or a game changing moment ( sending off etc) I think we will be fine with a couple to spare

Prediction
Celtic 3 hapoel 0.

We should win it in the first leg but you need a good ref they will be diving all over our box.

Paradise I would snap your hand off for 2-0. I am more confident now with The new signings however I can't see us dominating this team. I feel they will score and we might get a 1-1 or a 2-1 win. Hope I am totally wrong and you are spot on but from what I know this is going to be very difficult. A clean sheet would be great but who knows but with BR in charge maybe just maybe!

I am confident of a. 3 nil as well as I am happy with the way B Rodgers has set up the team and the way the players have responded . With nearly 60,000 behind us I don't think the Israeli team will be settled or confident .
Of course as you say Paradisewon things can go wrong on the night but I think we will make the Promised Land.

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Aug 2016 05:15:56
If the team goes into this game with the wrong mentsl attitude, i. e one of we are playing so well and so confidently, that we will win easily, they are setting themselves and us, up for a night of misery, they will have to apply themselves in a professional manner, the Israeli team are no mugs, but if Celtic stay focussed they should win, hate all this talk of all the money we will get when we wualify for the champions leaque, let's concentrate on getting there first.

I think we will score home and away
Unfortunately I think we are likely to concede with CG between the sticks.
I think we will have enough over the two legs - fingers crossed PR is fit for the away leg.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2016 08:59:33
I think having Toure involved will have a big impact on how CG performs, We look a lot more composed on the ball when he is there so no need to put pressure on CG with balls to feet. Cross balls a different matter they are worry and i'm nervous everytime he comes out flapping at fresh air.

Does anyone think CG will be dropped for tomorrow night?

No chance buddy ddv has only just signed and it would be too much of a risk at this stage. He will probably need a few games in the league first to build up an understanding with our defence he may get the shout in the cl groups though.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2016 11:11:38
That's probably the call of the evening for me, Stan. If either keeper makes a serious mistake then there will be a lot of room for questioning the manager. "Why persist with error-prone Gordon when we've signed a new keeper", "why play a new player in such an important game". I can't call it, thankfully it's not me that has to. But that's where managers earn their stripes.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2016 11:46:40
I think having Toure involved, will have a big impact on the way the whole team performs, with his experience and ability to marshal the defence.

Aindoh

If we respect them too much and opt to keep possession without threatening or opt not to press high in first 20 minutes at home then it's twenty minutes we will never get back across the 180 minutes

Confidence is okay. It's crucial. It does not mean toure thinking he's baresi or Maldini or brown thinking he's Luther Matheus. Not that type of arrogance. In talking about KNOWING that you should have enough to win and going it with the attitude to reinforce that very point

As old bhoy says we are going to the promised land, that much we can agree on

Note
Confidence does not equal smug

One wee point
We won't win the effort and endeavour battle at this stage. That is matter for us to match their effort and endeavour because they'll be playing to ECL finals noting the newness of it all ( and we have to be careful on that point )

But still a clean sheet for me and 3 goals to the good

Ed thoughts?

{Ed007's Note - Hapoel Beer Sheva are a poor side and as I said at the time, football wise it's one of the easiest draws we could have got, Astana was a trickier tie. Everyone's going on about them beating Olympiacos but how many of them watched both of their matches? We would have hammered the Greeks and at home I expect to hammer this mob}
I'm in total agreement with you except I'm still not confident about keeping a clean sheet but I do expect us to take a lead over there, I'll say 3-1 tomorrow and 1-1 away from home

16 Aug 2016 11:55:15

2-0 would be a perfect result. Score first over there and they need to score 4 withoutus stealing another. And with SS and possibly PR at some capacity we would likely nick another on the counter attack.

16 Aug 2016 20:06:45
Aindoh, I don't expect an experienced manager like Rodgers to send the team out to play with the wrong mental attitude . We have lost many games in Europe, but I don't think it was the wrong mental attitude that lost them .
Give Rodgers and his managers some credit .

16 Aug 2016 22:28:22
For me I reckon 3 1 Celtic, with Gordon in goal we r prone however we should have enough over 2 legs 2 beat this mob. One of the better draws we have had in a while and starting fast, like we should have against astana, and I can see us taking a commanding lead. I understand the virtue of patience in Europe but when u get in a teams face, get them on the back foot from the off and make them play your game u usually win, specially at home with a full crowd. Go for an early goal and be in control of the tie.
Hail hail.

Why is the Palestinian flag causing so much debate surly it's no worse than a tri colour union jack or any otherer flag our great club has many flags from all over the world flown at our games why is this being made to be offensive.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2016 23:41:43
I think the whole issue regarding the flag has been instigated by the media trying their best to stir up some peoples feelings on the matter and hopefully getting Celtic into trouble with UEFA so they can dramatise it in their rags and on certain radio shows.

Think the question is whether the game should be used as a protest against the Israeli goverment and their godawful treatment of the Palestilian people, or whether the game should be seen as merely a football match between two teams from two small countries, I mean how can anyone possibly go to this match when there are people starving in Gaza, and others getting shot and getting their homes bulldozed on the west bank, I don't know how anyone with a concience can attend this match and give succour to a team that are obviohsly representatives of the fascist Israeli goverment.

Aindoh again you never fail to amaze me with bollocks you spout. Quite racist to be honest tarring all israeli with same brush. Do u think Nir Biton is a fascist as he represents national team? Or is he different cause he is part of "the celtic family"?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2016 10:28:26
To be fair, aindoh was talking about the Israeli government. I don't think we should take simplistic positions in this. There is huge injustice in Palestine. There is injustice everywhere. Nobody can protest against it all, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't protest against some of it. And the plight of Palestinians resonates with some of our own history, in Ireland and in Scotland. The question is whether or not a football match is the place to protest. Any protest needs publicity, so a televised game is a good candidate from that point of view. Then again, I can see arguments against hurting the Club. We could ask why the UK government isn't objecting to Israeli policy, or why the press and wider media I this country aren't critical of the theft of people's land. Good questions. On balance I'm proud that we are discussing these things as a community. I'm not up for "suspend moral concerns where they might interfere with our fun". Politics is how we address matters of right and wrong in a democracy, and I don't think we can ever avoid that. But we should be canny enough not to be incited into hurting our own Club by people who wish us ill. There are no easy answers, that's the world we live in. But let's have a respectful debate, and balance legitimate political and moral concerns with the wellbeing of the football club.

I don't see any issue with Palestine flags being waved at the game tomorrow because our fans wave them at every game but what I wouldn't encourage is people who don't usually take a flag to take one with the sole purpose of antagonism. After all it's a bunch of football supporters and football players, not politicians.

So if, sorry when we get through there is a possibility of a marquee player. If that's the case then we must have a player lined up, now what team will sit with a player they know is moving on and not replace him. That makes the player we have in mind limited, given that thought it just about nails it down to Patrick Roberts . Not in the first team and the deal could already be tied up on the basis that we qualify for the group stages, then we get to sign him.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

15 Aug 2016 18:41:29
I suppose the logic is right. I still think he fancies a go at the premiership also to work under pep would be hard to turn down for a young lad.

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Aug 2016 18:56:38
Ehh I don't know if you know cprs1 but Roberts is ours till the end of the season regardless if we make the champions Leauge or not! What difference would us making the champions league make to Man City? I'm sure in January if he is still playing well then we might make a move to make it permanent but right now we have him till the end of the season! A marquee signing will be something on top of what we have already that player that might cost a bit more than we usually spend but will hopefully make a big difference to the team. We can but dream!

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Aug 2016 18:57:36
I'd like to think that the "one more" BR refers to will be a player dependent on the 30m CL windfall. This could be Paddy Roberts. Given we already know his quality and potential, it would be a lot less of a gamble than a player we aren't as familiar with. He'll have to have an outrageous season and a pretty spectacular CL campaign for City to consider him part of their first team plans as well. I'm sure I read on here that the 12m City agreed with Fulham was largely add-ons? Still, you're probably talking 6m, but that's fine providing JP amd PL can see value in it. And I can't see with the exposure we can provide, and his natural development, we couldn't double or even treble that. I can't see anything being decided until at least January though. By then City will have a better idea, and Paddy will hopefully realise that we provide a good platform for him (even if as a springboard) . The only other factor to consider is what sort of EPL sides might make a move. It'll be no mean feat, but getting PR on a permanent deal would be fantastic business imo.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Aug 2016 19:10:58
Marquee player can mean anything to different people . I presume if we do sign this player he won't be any better than Dembelle or Sinclair . Even still he will be very welcome .

gazcfc21: I know we have PR for the season, my thoughts are that Man City paid £12m for this player. he is here and he's getting to see the set up of CP, i'm just thinking its a logical step for us and that we would not need to bed in another player, and that £10m with add ons we just might get him.
If that's too rich for us and I know what your all thinking ( when did we last spend £10M on 1 player)
a bang average player in the epl is at least £15m.

It's no wonder some of the (it's a sport not politics crew) don't want politics in football. A struggle to grasp a basic understanding of it.

I mean if it wasn't for politics Celtic as a football club would not exist.

You can't pick and choose what the club is, the club was political by origin.

Also I take it none of you ever sang a national anthem at a football match?

Final point, we are all worried about playing Beer Sheva and offending them with a Palestine flag? because "politics doesn't belong? "

Well how come none of you mention that Beer Sheva Clubs badge has a communist hammer and sickle? is this not political?

Believable2 Unbelievable16

15 Aug 2016 17:35:20
Tesla don't know if your looking for someone to bite. But as simple as its going to be we don't need a fine, suspension from Europe or gates closed. That's the way majority of celtic fans out there think. If your wanting or any others want to make a political statement then do it elsewhere it's against the rules simple. Your watching sport not a debate in the house of commons keep it for elsewhere. Stay at home and argue to the tv if it means that much but don't ruin it on others.

And as for always being political. We were started as a club to ensure the poor in the east end of Glasgow where fed (irish immigrants predominantly) however all where welcome with anything else being sent to aid sufferers of poverty in Ireland. We are a charitable foundation not their to cause a political upheaval. For if yknow your history! !

Agree7 Disagree2

15 Aug 2016 18:03:38
Tesla, Their badge is nothing to do with a political communist statement. They are Israelis not Russians the badge has nothing to do with any political statement. They are from Israel, they wouldn't have a communist association ever. Also how is singing a national anthem political. When we sing flower of Scotland it's a nationalist statement not a political one unless of course someone wants to make it one but a national anthem is not intended as such. The problem is anything can be turned into a political statement. To be honest there is only a small amount of support for this protest and there is always a Palestinian flag flying somewhere but the problem is that it's going to get blown out of all proportion and be made to look like Celtic park is trying to cause trouble. We are giving the Scottish media more ammunition and everyone knows how that is going to br used against us. Let's just get our head down and win. It's going to be tough enough as it is.

Don't use club for your own use of ideas that's all, we came from Chara table causes welcomed to all!

To my way of thinking those of us who live Celtic day and night would waste our concentration on Pro-Palestinian flags or any other ensigns. We have 90 mins + half time interval to cheer and encourage our team to victory, let us not waste any of it.

Agree1 Disagree3

15 Aug 2016 20:01:10
That's exactly what I'm saying people are scared of a fine or punishment but otherwise don't see the flag as an issue any other week.

So basically it's a fear of authority, a fear of how we and the flag is interpreted. Most fly the flag in sympathy with a struggle of common people in palestine. It's not flown to be offensive.

So that answers your Biton theory, it's not an anti Israel thing, it's a sympathy for an oppressed people.

The guy saying national anthems are not political, I dunno how you can say nationalism isn't political. It's the daftest thing I've heard. "fought and died for" singing about battles? what has that got to do with football? but you pick and choose what you are happy with.

Yes we came as a charity for the poor, but ask why were these irish immigrants poor? because of the famine and held crops from Trevelyan. They were refused work in Scotland due to their background also. This is directly politics. The charity was to fight against political discrimination to help poverty. So don't try to wipe politics from that situation.

I bet you all sing fields of athenry as well but again got nothing to do with soccer.

it all comes down to fear of authority, the flag in itself has no offensive intention. This club has never been about fear of authority. If you people ran the club the SFA would have had our tricolor down years ago.

never bow to authority without real reason. A flag in itself is not political. simple.

15 Aug 2016 20:31:02
Telsa you are just changing the argument. A flag of a country is not political but a national anthem is? Explain?

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Aug 2016 20:49:54
A flag in istelf is not political.

An anthem about battles of past political struggles is literally a political song.

Fields of Athenrye goes on about stealing from Trevelyan due to his political stance.

poverty and politics are tied hand in hand whether you like it or not, as a club who supports impoverished peoples of all races, I see no offence in having a Palestine flag.

It's not used as an anti israel flag, but to support people going through a tough time.

I think that represents our club more than bowing down out of fear over a UEFA fine that's all.

Aye maybe if people say politics has zero place in sport but you can't just pick and choose when it suits like international footy, rememberance day etc. It's either in totally or out totally.

The theft of crops comes about as a result of political decisions. It's political even if you don't like it to be.

and cheers Stephbhoy, disappointing that so many supporters in denial that politics is closely related to our clubs, shameful attempts to push out and rewrite the history of the club and replace them with happy clappers.

I'm sure during the old/ new firm they all see it as just a football rivalry, i'm sure they deny any historical political differences and claim they hate Rangers just because their footballing choices.

I don't think Trevelan could have done any less . If there had been any justice he would have been charged with causing the death of millions of Irish citizens .
Irish exports of food and grain actually increased during the years of the mass starvation in Ireland .
Trevelan hid the worse excesses of the result of the potato crop failures from his Government, preferring to wine and dine with the English land owners in Ireland and turn a blind eye to their exporting food etc.

Afternoon all, ED.
Well it's been an exciting day to say the least on here. Ed see you've your hands full again, some valid (intelligent) points, (ye should have said from a guy fae the Hamilton mad squad but unfortunately that would've been lost in translation mate ;-D) anywayz your right it definitely is and goes a lot deeper than people know or care to believe. I. E boardroom double standards etc. I had guys at my work throwing the toys out the pram today over this again after reading out some comments from earlier. Which again showed the divide in us which I find completely bonkers! Drove me insane today with a few of them due slapped for their complete lack of knowledge while jumping in. Crazy.
Iam not going back over the past or indulging in others views we could be here all day. There is genuine passion for our club then there is others who don't know there arse from elbow and just jump on the band wagon. That's a fact we all live with, wether we care to admit it or not.
Everyone should be concentrating on wed night, and showing support for the players to qualify and to take us forward, lads we should give this a by now for everyone's sake cause it won't change a thing BTW!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - It's a mountain out a molehill that the media are using to show Celtic in a bad light and the usual PC idiots in our own support are helping them do it.}

Please be gentle ED007 as I am still traumatised by the 74 who disagreed with my post on the Sevco page. For some reason people just hit disagree at anything with the Timalloy tag on it, cannot for the life of me understand why lol.

I know all about there history because that's what we as fan do learn about the club we love. Bottom line we are a Scottish football team with an Irish heritage. So I see nothing wrong with people flying Scottish and Irish flags! We go to games to support our team on the pitch so why oh why do we need to bring along Palestine flags it has nothing to do with our team! Fly the team colours! And let's light up the Champions Leauge! We are Glasgows green and white!

Not telling what people should or can do but let's look at the facts.

We know uefa has giving us fines when we shouldn't have as other fans of clubs got away with the same thing at times. Now that about 5 fines so they probably will up it to next level next time, and with them giving a warning before hand you know they will hit hard.
So it could cost a match played with no crowds making kids and people of all ages miss or worse kicked out.
But more importantly as we saw in road trips people just want to fight so be ready to be targeted, don't want anything bad to happen to our good support and club and have people seriously hurt or tarnish the club. Again not telling what to do just know what can happen and what it could do to innocent fans.
and remember uefa won't change their minds afterwards no matter how unjust the punishment is.

A true supporter of Celtic (or any other club) will be well aware of the negative consequences of controversial behaviour. Yet for some reason there are people who think their personal feelings about religion or politics need to be spouted at Celtic Park.
Get it into your heads guys. CELTIC PARK IS A FOOTBALL GROUND, KEEP ALL YOUR OTHER BELIEFS AND FEELINGS FOR THE RIGHT TIME AND PLACE.
Some people would make ordinary decent fans ashamed by their narrow minded, stubborn and pigheaded attitude.
Whether it's Palestine, Timbuktu or Chinese Taipei you feel strongly about then show it somewhere else and stop being a feckin dick. You are an embarrassment to our club and yourselves.

Hail Hail.

Guys, let's all count to 10 :0)

Everyone is entitled to there own opinions and part of that is the free form of expression afforded to us by our Western way of life. Regardless of whether its hate or love, we are only a hypocrite if we attempt to punish anyone who has different views to our own. That being said, if the Celtic FC football club requested that I as a fan did not do something in an attempt to help protect the club, then provided that request had no detrimental effect to myself, then I would be happy to oblige. What is saddening to me however is the clear amount of discontent i'm reading towards each other on here. We are all here for our love of Celtic FC, not because of religion or political view points. i'm sure there are other places where this can be fought over.

Personally I like hearing about us signing Ibrahimovic, schweinsteiger and Van Persie to our lovely blue bros. Its light hearted and good old fun. let's push the conversations back in that direction.

Agree5 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He didn't give any opinion. All he done was tell other people what they should do according to him - the exact thing other supporters are speaking out against and have done for over 100 years.
Has the Cub mentioned anything about flying Palestinian flags? Have you seen people drunk or smoking? Swearing? Standing in seated areas? That's all things Celtic ask you not to do at EVERY match and are ignored by thousands, where's the panty wetters then?
If the Club receive any sanctions then it's about time they grew a set of balls and challenged UEFA, once again Celtic would be getting punished for things other clubs get away with every year.}

A bit harsh there Ed . coming from west belfast I for 1 support the Palestinian people and their struggle. think bestybhoy is just concerned about the sanctions the club could face if celtic park is used as a platform to condone all oppression around the world. although bestybhoy is harsh himself on the people who have expressed there unhappiness at the treatment of Palestinians. I don't think as fellow supporters we should be speaking aggressively to one another even if we have different views on things.

So it's OK for Bestybhoy to call other fans 'dicks' and 'embarrassments to the club and themselves'? It's OK for him to tell other people, grown men, what they should do?
So, you can tell me why that's OK can you?
If you want to keep politics out of Celtic Park why not start with the boardroom or how about Besty starts telling supporters to stop singing about rebelling against the Crown at the start of games? We wouldn't want to offend anyone now, would we?

It's the idiots that have caused our club enough grief over the years by deliberately being controversial. Football is a sport, the rest of the bollox is not. The Irish flag is our heritage. It isn't flown in an antagonistic manner by the club but some fans do use it as such.
I'm not telling anyone what to do and it certainly isn't YOUR place or anyone else's to criticise me for saying what a lot of fans think.

Ed

I never said the club had issued a request. Was only illustrating intention should there be. I also refrained from making any kind of "siding" in my previous statement although I can see both your points of view. It was intended to remind everyone who reads it that, IMO, unless they are making a personal attack against someone then they are entitled to there opinion. Fly a flag, don't fly a flag; support green, support blue; read the bible, read the karan. IMO it shouldn't matter. Each to there own and all that

As far as the club goes again, I have not heard of or seen any requests, so why all the agro on here anyway. I have neither heard of or seen any warnings from UEFA so whey the concern there as well. Ed is correct, flags are flown all the time, everywhere we go with no indented antagonism or malice. Given the info we have at present I genuinely can't see why we just can't go about business as usual. Am I wrong?

15 Aug 2016 13:34:04
The majority of fans don't want anything to do with controversy. They just want to support their club and watch football. Unfortunately there will always be an element of thrillseekers and those with a 'feck the rules we'll do what we want' attitude that cause the problems. They won't change either so the rest of us will just have to learn to shake our heads in disappointment. Unfortunately we're not really allowed to say anything about it because Ed doesn't like that bit :-)

The repercussions of any Palestinian flags being flown on Wednesday might not be limited to a not h ere fine. UEFA could close CP for next Euro game or could even Chuck Celtic out of the competition full stop. I cannot for the life of me under d t and the mentality of anyone who will fly a Palestinian flag regardless. The warnings and consequences have been well documented and I expect the club to have to make a, public appeal to our support to desist from this. That in itself is embarrassing. The blue mob will love all the negative stuff that this issue is/ will bring. Fellow hoops, please help nip this in the bud. Have a, word with any mates attending who might be thinking of damaging our club by taking a Palestinian flag into the park on Wednesday.

Not sure I agree Nora but I do see your point.

It's catch 22 tbh do we as a club stop being who we are and what we stand for because uefa don't like it.
Plenty of people have pointed out Palestinian flags have been at parkhead in a regular basis for years but we have to stop on Wednesday in fear of "offending" the opposition.
But it's perfectly acceptable the offend our club and ask us to stop being who we are?

I think to many celts are getting wound up by each other when in actual fact it's uefa who are trying to suppress our supporters.

Or, here's an idea. Why don't they show us proof the contribute funds to feed people there? Or, a list of the meetings they attend on the issue?

It's like Billy Bragg once wrote wearing badges isn't enough. Waving a flag to look like a left wing hero and defender of the oppressed doesn't cut it either.

By all means get involved in any cause you wish, but that doesn't mean waving a flag at a game. It means getting involved.

I feel the same about the republican songs.

You hear a couple of thousand sing them but anytime I see reports of republican marches there's about 100. Why us that when so many are willing to sing? Can never understand that. It seems they aren't that committed or maybe don't fancy going toe to toe with loyalists.

So, it seems singing songs and waving flags is as far as political solidarity goes.

As I said be as passionate politically as you feel but think about how you portray that.

At a game?

Either get out on the streets, attend meetings and leave all that firebrand outrage at the door and support your team.

Not a binary issue, you can support both. Have always been proud of Celtic supports links to human rights. Have also said several times that we probably shouldn't fly them but don't like prioritising UEFA coin over principles. Last night, I made a throwaway comment which led to the biggest amount of hysterics from a lot of people eg I should go live in Palestine? WTAF? Not wanting to turn this place into a political debate forum but at the same time, people need to get a sense of perspective. So to emphasise, I concede that it may not be best idea to bring Palestine flags on wednesday night and I hope we take at least a 2 goal cushion over there.

Although there's a degree of naivety in me saying that. Looking at their team (remember Ben Sahar? ) there was one name that stood out - Barda. Seems we have a cowardly support nowadays.

Last season Spanish tried to get Barcelona to not fly catalonia flag in final.

There were attempts in past to remove tricolour from parkhead.

Now people say Palestine has no connection to our club but our club was made for everyone. Our club was built on the sympathy for poor and oppressed.

Now I have no allegiance to any side personally in this conflict but I sympathise for the civilians caught in the middle of it.

Also our club has a history of fighting for its right to fly our own flag. Being told what flags you cannot fly is fascist directly. Should we bow to that just to avoid a fine? What if we fly an Israeli flag for biton? Is that political?

Pretty much any flag is political. Picking and choosing which ones should be flown is fascism. Simple. Half the people on here don't seem to have a clue and in some modern day denial that politics are not in football. They are.

You know something guys Iam fed up listening to all this political talk. A don't know about anyone else.
Think we can all agree everyone has an opinion on this subject and depending on where your from your view may differ slightly. Common sense will tell us so. (Hopefully ED)
Flags, fascism, racism, oppressed, poor, bigots, etc etc all strong words that sounds like my childhood growing up in the south side of glesga in the 70's and 80's. (Lived it, fought it, delt with it, moved on from it! ) I love my club to the core it's been my heart and soul for the last 40 odd yrs.
Basically my point is simple, we all have opinions, we all have a background that we can all relate and affiliate too in one way or another that we can all agree on 100% undisputed.
But no one person or movement is bigger than our club that I can assure u off! Iam just fed of this politics p*** even the word just spells lies to me. Think we've had our fair share recently so can the football please break out! We shouldn't be arguing over this at all. If the club is asking us not to do it for this 1 game then don't do it. Don't know about anyone else but if a was band from paradise for the sake of a flag, al be mightly pis*** off!
Over this weekend I've watched fellow hoops friends argue and fallout over this, guys walkout at work, and now read a lot of bickering on here, come on guys.
Meanwhile over at castle greyskull their loving it and just itchin for us mess up on wed so them and the rest can laugh some more while we get punished (fine or closed doors) and bicker some more like sweetie wife's about whether it was right or wrong or moral or not.

Looking forward to the flags of all the countries oppressed by China, Burma, Sudan, Yemen, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam, Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Bangladesh, Libya, Nigeria, Belarus, Eritrea, India, Russia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Chad, Laos, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Honduras, Kazakhstan and Thailand being displayed on Wednesday. Ridiculous post? Have a think about the choice you make and the repercussions that could follow.

The only flags that should be flown over CP is the tricolour and saltire and probably the uefa one too.

The tricolour because it's our roots and heritage
The saltire as it's our home and league we play in
UEFA flag as we play in there competitions .

All other flags that get flown for political reasons should be a strict no no.

When we're all leaving the house on wed night the ladt thing we should all be grabbing is our celtic scarfs not our pallestine flags or our smoke bombs it's a game of football, enjoy it and stop hurting our club with eufa fines sick of it.

I'm not massive on politics or religion in football as they tend to get misinterpreted and used for hatred. Having said that politics and religion have been a part of sport going back some time now and if used correctly and at the right time can have a positive impact.

We know we will get our baws kicked for flying Palestinian flags in isreal but common sense tells you that will always be the case and the logical thing to do is to sidestep it. Having said that we are a "club like no other" and will help those who suffer from oppression and wrongdoing and don't agree that we cannot be allowed to show support.

It's the 21st century and freedom of speech should not be censored but keep it out of the stadium. Plenty other ways to show it either online or OUTSIDE the ground as uefa have made there stance clear, there an organisation like every other unfortunately.

I heard a story that in the 1930's (1936 I think) there was a certain German political party's flag that flew over ibrox? The game was apparrently a national game that took place pre WW2.

Anyone else heard this story?

As for flag waving, football is a sport and a day out. Certain songs and chants are banned, I can't see why everyone is getting upset over some guidance about flags.

Our club has the history of fighting for the right to fly OUR OWN FLAG.
Barcelona fought for the right to fly their OWN FLAG.
If you want to campaign for Palestinian people then go to the marches and public events organised for it.

Really pi$$es me off people bringing politics into football. When i go i'm there to focus fully on watching Celtic. If i wanted to hear about politics, i would stay at home and watch the news.

Would not be surprised if some of our support fly Palestine flags in Israel. Very stupid if they do. Israel is an extremely volatile enviroment and why endanger other supporters safety?

Hope Dorus can push Gordon and make position his own as I never feel confident watching corners into our box. On Wednesday I hope there isn't a mass Palestinian protest as the majority of beer Sheva fans will be here hoping there team can record another historic result in their history. I'm pretty confident they will go home disappointed but I hope that's the only reason why. Not a regular poster but check in everyday in the hope we're going to sign a gem and to catch up with the patter had by all. Cheers ed and all regular posters for the info.

Ed

BR quotes on DDV via celtic website seem pretty categoric IE mr Gordon isn't so much under pressure for his place but could be out from the get go.

BR focuses on GK distribution and says he is the best he has seen which does not bode well for CG. He says it is crucial to how he wants to play

All very interesting

Also a big communicator. It seems that we are putting an emphasis on leadership. That's toure and brown and now DDV and we know the Great Dane likes to wag his tongue too

BR has identified weaknesses IE leadership and mental toughness and is continuing with his surgery

1 or 2 more starting X1 additions ( assuming they are to be better ) could be he icing on the cake. We still need midfield dynamism and an experienced striker who can hold the ball up and draw fouls and who can win battles in the air. We need to be a goal threat again from set pieces ( delivery and finishing ) as it was huge at home and abroad in MON times and with few chances available to us in European games we need to find ways to be effective

CG possibly out within 2 weeks?

I agree Paradise and posted something similar earlier on. I can't see him pitching him in to the CL game so my hope is that these quotes inspire rather than nerve Gordon and he plays a stormer but it could go the other way. I've seen a few saying Duffy and Delaney to sign with a marquee signing dependant on CL qualification but BR said 2 more signings and that was before DDV so can only see 1 more signing as opposed to 3 but hope I'm wrong.
