I must admit that I have been really impressed at how good Tierney is for his age and is probably already the best left back in the country.

In my opinion he has all the makings of being the best left back since Tommy Gemmell, which is a high accolade indeed. Going back to 1980 (when I first started going to games) , I can only think of 1 left back who has impressed me more than Tierney and Tierney is currently keeping him out the team. While Izzy is probably a bit better at attacking, he is behind Tierney when it comes to defending.

As things stand I really don't see a weakness in his game, which is not to say that he can't or won't improve. That is what excites me, if he continues to develop and as he gains more experience, think how good he is going to be in 5 years time.

Id have to say tom boyd, mahe and personal favourite of mines tosh mckinlay were all better than izzy, yoing tierneys had a great season and if he keeps progressing to the same level never mind surpassing the players I've mentioned ill be well happy.

His defence is definitely his strongest aspect about being a LB he has great reading of the game and pushes in for a tackle with perfect timing. He also doesn't mess about, he just puts the ball out the park if he is under pressure and doesn't do anything risky.

He's a great tackler pedro, and a true defender.

I think we're yet to see his true strength going forward yet too. Was he not a winger in the youths at times? I think quite often this season, although having a good game defensively, the man infront of him hasn't been the best partner in allowing him to go up to or, even, recieve the ball in advanced positions.

No doubt young player of the season. It might be best to give player of the season to LG. Don't take too much incentive away from KT. But to be fair his attitude seems spot on.

Very exciting prospect.

I know it's only one other guys opinion too but in Marca a couple of weeks ago he was named in a European u21 XI or something. Nice to know that somebody who covers Spanish and even European football has put him in something like that.

I know Danny McGrain was mainly a right back, but he was so talented, he was also a formidable left back - especially for Scotland to accommodate Sandy Jardine's selection.
Young Tierney seems to have all the same attributes, defensively and in attack and seems, similarly very comfortable on the ball.
I was worried he would be over-relied upon and rushed, but he looks confident, comfortable and more than capable in the role.
Definitely a candidate with Griffiths for POYT.

Ok guys enough about Ronnie and the team (until saturday) let's get to the important stuff CHELTENHAM
Got most of my anti post bets already (put some up on the football bets page ) on but still have money left for "steamers", market movers or hot tips.
My advice for day 1, is go with the favourites as they mostly oblige.
Take up the bookmakers offering free bets.
Set yourself a limit and do not exceed it.
Check out ED023 tips each day as he usually does pretty well, I always take his tips mostly each way.
Any of our regular punters have any tips, please post them for the rest of us. let's go Bookie Bashing.

{Ed023's Note - I hope so too buddy, I have a few fancies in the week which I hope will get a run in the races I think they have the best chance in. Did you bet on Mystical Knight yesterday?}

14 Mar 2016 15:01:34
Mystical, just got up on the line, but I think it had a bit in hand,2/ 1 was a good price, I just kept checking the declarations, so thanks Tim, I see that she has left her other one in the Bartlett, so that might be worth a go.

No ED023 never saw Mata's post until after the race, hope you were on.
For Cheltenham I always do Lucky 15/ 31 and each way also when odds permit, have found this strategy pretty successful, especially with bookmakers who offer treble or four times odds one winner. Last 2 years this has been good to me with plenty of decent priced placed horses in my accumalotors, it soon mounts up even just getting them placed and I also look for value with bookies offering extra places.

{Ed023's Note - I was on and it has paid for a few bets for this week - shame you didn't get a bet on. I have a few bets done as you can see and usually then I would do the big fields like the handicaps each way.

What bookie do you use? I've got a bet365 account but do they pay as many places as the others?

Sly offer 5 places in at least one race a day at Cheltenham and 4 places on a couple of others.

{Ed023's Note - I've a 365 account and they are going best price on every race this week televised on channel 4. They're paying 5 places today in the 2.50 and 4 places in the two last races}
