It turns out that Black Ian of Sevconia has received a 3 match ban for his gambling antics (yes I know it's a 10 match ban with 7 suspended).
Doesn't it sound like a very lenient penalty for an offence that is apparently taken very 'seriously'? Or is this the going rate?
Either way it doesn't appear to be too much of a deterrent for other players. Take a bow SFA!

ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - Any player from any club found to be betting in matches involving his own team should be sacked IMO. There is no excuse for it. I have no problem with players having a bet but it is sheer stupidity to bet in matches you are involved in and Black must have known it would not end well. Look at the punishments meted out to players in other countries involved in betting scandals, it's not only the SFA that have failed in this instance but the club has failed to deal with it properly. The Sand Dancer was sacked for less.}

Ed I agree that players should be allowed to bet on a game but I would suggest that it is only games outwith the association that they play in.

As for 7 game ban suspended unless he does the same again is shocking. He should be banned for the full 10 games.

This is going to open a can of worms in Scottish football and as the SFA have now set a precidence all players should get a 3 match ban and 1 weeks pay fine.

Cant see it happening though. some young lad from a lower league will be caught doing the same and be chased out of the game.

Got to agree with you ED, how this idiot was not sacked is beyond belief, to be honest (to use one of fat man's saying's ) it doe's not really surprise me.

I know I wouldn't, he is always going to have the stigma of corruption hanging over him. The Slug would have been the first one up the marble staircase demanding a player be sacked if that had happened during his playing days. He actually did have some morals back in those days.}

ED007 I totally agree with your views on any player gambling against his own team.
What I find incredible is the silly reactions from media and players union guys alike, simply because it was a sevconian player found guilty.
So far I count on tv radio Chick Young, in the press Derek Johnstone and the players union rep Fraser Wishart all ranting about the injustice of it all.
My main complaint is with Wishart who as a union rep is SUPPOSED to represent EVERY player but seems to spend all his time defending sevconians.

The SFA say they have a zero tolerance policy over any betting then ignore 147 minor breaches and give a 3 match ban for 13 major breaches. Unbelievable. Is anybody else getting sick of these nameless 'independent' tribunals? Should the SFA not be imposing their own rules and punishments.

AMcC says Rangers have to be cleansed from top to bottom then ignores this altogether. Even when his own fans are calling for his head. This after sacking Sandaza for f all. They really are the SHAME.

Leave them to swim in their filth and sack the SFA.

Stokes wasn't left out just because Trappatoni was in charge of the national team. He has brought most of his troubles to his own front door. Trappatoni appears to have been a man who simply wouldn't tolerate his unpredictable behaviour and poor attitude.
If Stokes puts his head down and stops inviting trouble into his life then he can have a very successful career with club and country. It's entirely up to him and no-one else is to blame if he isn't picked for teams because he certainly isn't lacking in ability when he puts his mind to the task.

Good point CB; Stokes has been great for us so far this season winning the United and Ross County games while setting up our crucial CL qualifying goal. If he steers clear of injury and takes advantage of the absence of Hooper to make the strikers role his own, he could have a fantastic season.
The lapses of discipline off the park and bad attitude need to disappear for his International career to resume.

Chrisbhoy, stokes wasnt picked by trappatoni the then eire boss, trappatoni and only trappatoni selected the players, therefore trappatoni gone, stokesy back in the fold hopefully, ., .kbarry

Kbarry, Trappatoni picked players who showed the right attitude. He didn't pick Stokes because he was unreliable in that department and any future manager worth his salt will do the same. Stokes should stay below the radar when it comes to controversy and if he had done that before then Trappatoni would surely have stuck with him.
Trappatoni had no prblem with Stokes until Stokes gave him good reason.
