Ed youl be distraught to hear that ive been thinking again!! (only kidding) of other possible money spinning ideas in football.. this one is for associations more than individual teams.

A while back now i posted a comment about an old firm selecct v an spl select team as a season opener / closer and it is deffo a good idea IMO.

Well this idea is a variation on this.

Have an inter FA trophy. Encompassing the top 15 ranked UEFA leagues. ( so we would sneak in at the moment...i think lol).

format is simple. Each FA has votes amongst its fans to create a select of the best players in the league say 18 players.text votes, phone votes, = some money which must be spent on say grass roots or something useful.

And enter them into a competition. 5 random groups of 3 teams, each team gets 2 games, top teams qualify for quarter finals, then the 3 next best placed, based on points, then goals scored, then goals conceded ( im sure this would seperate them out)

and straight knockout to final. Can run it as a pre season opener / closer on non world cup or euro years and max gaames would be 6 over a three/ four week period.

Problems obviously would be clubs not wanting to release players and timing of tourney.

obv cant be bothered going right into this all off the bat as lots over other connotations etc and issues and some positives

What do people think?

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - I have said for years that there should be a curtain raiser to the season as a charity event.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Certainly ed, i know im not alone with wanting something different. RThis sorta stuff just whets my appetite i thinj there are so many ways we can jig around footie in almost every country, prob why i was getting so into the euro discussion yesterday lol. I just want change, something maybe a bit more light hearded like this or a single game like the selects or whatever or even a replica of the charity sheild, altho will end up being Celtic v Rangers (most of the time) if it was done the same way as englands cup is done lol. Although is even that such a bad thing?

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - An CFC and Rangers select against a Scotland elect? Surely the players in England's managers would let Scotland players come up for it as a friendly and charity match. It could also help repair the damage done to our reputation after last season. Make it a family affair that let kids (and authorities) see CFC and Rangers fans can get on. On that note, well done to Rangers for the planned collection for Hillsborough. I am sure you will all give generously and do yourselves proud for this very very worthy cause.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly on those lines. stuff like this would not necessrily have worldwide appeal, but would certainly make news in a hell of a lot o places for the right reasons... "bitter rivals join forces for good causes" etc. all positive and its what the scottish game especially needs positivity!!

Im glad to see someone on the same wavelength (although you have shown it before) , just want to see more of it across the board!!

I did think about posting it on gers page too, but plumped for main one since the original post was intra FA, more opinion saught positive or negative, although at this time o night prob unlikley lol

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - Yeah the English Eds asked me to look at it lol I just posted it up to see the reaction.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha cheers dude, nice to see im making others go out their way about my posts too lol . a reaction is what its all about i suppose. Even if its a nah just trying to but in on some of the epl's thunder lol all constructive in my book positive or negative.

Cheers

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - The English sites talk about football with a bit of banter a lot more, rather than some of the childish muck I need to wade through (and any one editing Rangers).

Agree0 Disagree0

Well ed one of the resons i decided to butt my way in to these sites although not really commented on many other teams pages as of yet. Most other football forums are just full of absolute garbage no matter where you go. No one willing to talk about all aspects of the game esp scottish based ones. always boils down to the old firm and the petty crap that goes with it. Or if its somewhere like Kerrydsle st, its all so bloody blinkered and rational thought and ideas seem to generally go out the window.

Also like the idea that if you do go out of line or bore someone to sleep. it either doesnt get posted by you guys or you get told to watch it or told your being a numpty, rather than regardless of your point just being told yer a pure person by the way. which does happen on here a lot, but the good stuff at least gets to come to the fore. That said i willl call someone a person if in my opinion they are being so lol.

Anyways i will sit back and see at sompoint tomorrow what ideas others may have if any,

Thats my view on life as a whole, its all about sharing ideas (preferably constructive) and finding ways to impliment them for the enjoyment and betterment of everyone.

A pleasure as always Ed, night.

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - People complain about Tony, FF81 (is he in a Spainsh jail??) etc coming on, but they will banter away and discuss stuff which IMO is better than just slagging each other off about years old stuff that we all know and have done a million times before. I am all for some good open debate and we have done it with some touchy subjects, and I do try to be fair as well as be a WUM when it is needed. Night mate, God bless.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Like the idea of an old firm vs epl select , only problem being, we could end up getting totally pumped and being embarrassed even more, just think of ur top old firm 11 and match it against epl top 11

Agree0 Disagree0

Gers fan here Why not an SPL top 11 rather than just old firm ? {Ed007's Note - I was thinking if it was the Glasgow teams against a Scotland select that players from the other teams could get a chance in the Scotland side. If it was an SPL v EPL select then by all means make it from all clubs. Make it a family affair, like a carnival to get kids enjoying a day out at the football mixing with other fans, competitions for kids, photo ops with trophies and players from past and present etc.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Fair point dude we would get our asses felt in that scenario.

I was meaning an old fifm select v an SPL select, which would be a lot closer, Or putting each top leagues teams in a tourney, yes the spl team would prob get humped,by your spanish and english etc etc, But i think it would be a brilliant spectacle with some of the dream teams you could get out of leagues like Italy, spain england etc. Almost like making a team on FIFA!

Evinguu

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed that is exactly the sort of atmosphere intended!! spot on, what the game needs!

Evnguu {Ed007's Note - Thanks mate. The whole country needs to do something to try to lose the image that we are all red faced, foaming at the mouth bigots, and let the ones who are know that they will not win. CFC and Rangers fans could take their wife and kids along and sit with their mates family from the opposition. If you can't sit and behave at a charity football match in front of your own wife and kids you really shouldn't be allowed near a football stadium.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha foaming at the moouth bigots stirs up some wonderful mental images, maybe we could have a bigots/idiots stand at matches, a free for all standing area where all the idiots can go and beat the living crap out of each other for 90 mins, with no intervention, we can just watch them slowly erradicate themselves from the gene pool?maybe a tad nazi like in ideology here but hey they are asswipes.

McFadden at best a bench warmer he would maby be able to change a game for the last 15 minutes but that is it he wont be able to play a full 90 minutes

Believable2 Unbelievable4

If he passes the trial & fitness test then I defo think worth the gamble..he has experience on his side, something lacking at the moment - Chrissy

After the last 2 weeks of posts & now were back to the football side of things.

Thoughs on the kille game lads ? A think 2-0 hooper & either stokes or bangura

Come on you bhoys in green
Lenny

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Is that the same hooper stokes and bangura that didnt score against hearts haha

13 Oct 2011 20:10:59
Hopefully we get McFadden! When fit, and he would be relatively quick!? He could be the creative player that is missing from the side! As long as wages aren't to high it could be a good signing. We can only count on stokes and hooper up front, I would imagine he would play as a left sided midfielder tho! Either or a fit McFadden walks into this Celtic side!

Ye kiddin? McFudden is one of the slowest players ever. Even when he was at Well he couldn't run the length of himself.

I hear we're having a serious look at McFadden and he might be joining us.

No chance of doing exactly the same thing to sort out our defence?

Arne Freidrich?
Marco Materazzi? (probably too old but he's a leader, an experienced CB that unlike Majstorovic would actually show his experience and our defence needs both).
Lloyd Samuel?
Carlos Diogo?

Other random players on free that might be worth looking at: Kelvin Etuhu, Mohamadou Diarra, Michael Stewart, Mustafa Salifou, Richard Kingson.

Just seen the news, McFadden's apparently training with the club......no deal been offered yet. He trained with Wolves recently and they knocked him back, coupled with the fact that no other EPL teams showed any interest, perhaps suggests that he's not up to much. Really not sure about this....any thoughts?......Miko

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Miko, I think about 90% Celtic fans dont want McFadden, he will have a lot to prove. Miko saw your argument with Ed001 on rangers site, better not tell our Ed007 that ed001 thinks Fegrie corrupt, I was genuinely surprised by how strongly he came out with it as i thought all editors had to be very careful what they put in print as it is attributable back to them. Neil T {Ed007's Note - What do you expect from a Scouser?? ;-) We only need to be careful of anything we can't back up, you should have seen the argument we had with someone over Joey Barton when he was linked to CFC during the summer. If it's true we will say it, simple as that. Or if it is anything to do with 'red tops' and their minions, Rupert Murdoch and SKY we don't care, it is our opinion on them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

One of the guys on SSB says the deal has gone through and will be announced tomorrow.

As for signing him I don't have a problem with it although in some ways I see it as a move to get the fans back on the side of the board in our current poor run of form. Quality player on his day, offers us something different, supporter of the club so hopefully his heart will be in it which I think the team badly needs (although I guess his attitude can be questionable so not overly optimistic).

My main problem is why we aren't more active in looking at the defence. Sure, we've injury problems (and hopefully McFadden won't join the list), but I'd love to see us bring in a free agent to shore up the backline.

Agree0 Disagree0

Joey Barton? coming to Celtic, glad I missed that story. Ed just heard Wigan have let Kirkland the goalkeeper go to Doncaster on loan until january, would he not be a possibility surely he is a safer keeper than Forster Neil T {Ed007's Note - His stats are poor. He has conceded a goal every 20 mins (approx) he has played.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Neil, noticed your comments on their page too, cheers for that. It all started with them going on about how Greegs is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, better than Buffon, blah, blah, blah...

Don't know if Fergie is corrupt, however to suggest that Mrs Ferguson is on the payroll too is outlandish, to say the least.

Don't know what to make of McFadden Neil, would he not just be the equivalent of McCourt?......Miko

This site just makes me laugh, not so long ago all you were saying never touch McFadden he is finished and all that. Now its in the paer stating he could be signing he is the best thing since sliced bread. ONLY ED007 states he is against it and always has stated he was (I dont normally agree with him tho) Get a grip Celtic fans can you not all see he is and always will be a one man player, injury PRONE BIG TIME and will spit the dummy the same as Commons has. HOPE YOUS GET HIM. LOL {Ed007's Note - Thanks mate. I am not going to change my opinion on a player just because he might sign for us. I wonder what CFC fans would be saying if he was signing for Rangers?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You obviously don't read all the posts before jumping right in there numpty.

McFudden lol. The guys finished and barring a couple of wonder goals for Scotland was rotten anyway. Totally overrated at his peak so will be woeful now.

The original poster should take a look at the other mobs site, prior to Goodwillie signing for Blackburn, he was the next McCoist. when he signed for Blackburn, suddenly no-one wanted him near ibrokes!

Bhoys calm down please, if the board are sensible and offer him a pay as you play deal then its a great signing!! It wasn't that long ago he was scoring wonder goals for scotland. He's still only 28 I think he still has a few good years left and he is a quality player when fit. If its true about Commons then this would be a good replacement but I still don't think we've seen the end of commons, time will tell.

AGM tomorrow McFadden in signing talks hhmmm what a coincidence. Just so the board can take the heat off themselves. What they don't realise is we don't want him he is just another maloney, play 5 miss 25. And although I ain't a fan of McCourt 2 of them are same kind of player. Both flatter to decieve!! Wot you think Ed?? {Ed007's Note - I am against signing McFadden 100%}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

13 Oct 2011 16:04:37
Ed I believe you mentioned the Celtic AGM is tomorrow (Friday), firstly do you think this is why the McFadden story has surfaced? Secondly I hope some shareholders will question the board on their transfer policy (or lack of it) I think I read that Mr Desmond has not attended the last 3 AGM's if he does not attend tomorrow questions should be asked about his committment to Celtic.
Most Celtic fans recognise the work put in by the board to keep us out of debt, but there must be a happy medium where more funds are released for players and wages.
I hope the fans take the opportunity to voice concerns tomorrow before it is too late, we need investment in players in January and the board must be told this. Neil T {Ed007's Note - Have a read at this Neil, the very last part is the reason that I don't attend the AGM's they are pointless exercises and I am sure any normal fan in the street who has attended will agree. They are an excuse to look out your club tie and blazer and be able to say that you were there. Very little, if anything, happens that the board don't want to happen.

celticfc.com/downloads/AGM_2011-Notice_and_Notes.pdf

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats the whole point of an AGM though, all things to be discussed ( if you can call AGMS a real discussion) are predetermined .

Only way in my opinion to get fans views better heard would be to call for an EGM!

Evinguu

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed just read your AGM download, I see what you mean very little time (if any) allowed for fans questions to the board. Neil T
PS at least we can all still revel in Rangers numerous court cases the latest being Mr McIntyre trying to freeze more bears money, at this rate Whyte will have more solicitors working for him than fans going to ibrox ha ha

Can see it now Mcfadden will be more inconsistent than sammy but will get no stick from fans {Ed007's Note - I think he is being brought in to fill Maloney's place in the treatment room.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Ah well then its an improvement in that area

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha nice one Ed,

Myabe not a replacement for maloney, maybe for acting as a translator for Broonie? lol

To OP, yup think you have a point if it turns out that way, amazed we dont have the usual hes scored so many in his last so many appearances etc etc ..... yet

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - Well here it is lol McFadden is 28, has scored 64 goals in 297 club appearances, Samaras is 26 with 85 goals in 319 appearances. I don't know McFadden's most recent games/goals ratio, it was probably before the internet was invented and nobody has put it on a site yet ;-)

When the board sit smuggly at the upcoming agm and dish the same auld bull about how they have managed to get a player of Faddys quality because he has waited all his life to pull on the hoops. Do not be fooled , he has had 3 chances to sign and never and now because the board are under preassure to get a name in before the agm to keep the fans off their back.
Is this were you want your season ticket money to go. look at the last mid season desperate loanees and ask if he is in the same class.
Is being a supporter all that it takes to be a player, because it is not down to fitness , quality or consistency over the last few years. if you love your club and want to see better players on the park I hope you will agree with me . no more badge kissing wannabees. {Ed007's Note - Great post mate.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

A decent player if he stays fit - no fee - can bring something different to games can play wing or up front

that do me for starters

hey Ed i have noticed by a lot of postings on here that a lot of the celtic fans think faddy will be a good signing because he is a celtic fan if i give you my big m8s number will you give it to NL cause he is a bigger celtic fan than faddy he is 50 years old weighs around the same as commons (21 stone) but most of all he loves that mediocre club of yours that much he will play for nowt lol

Tony {Ed007's Note - I know mate. You have to question some people's ability at rational thought. My brother in law still goes on about Weiss joining Rangers and how great he was/is/will be, I just shake my head at him now, there is no point even arguing with him any more.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't see the point in signing him . Lenny wouldnt play Ljunberg and he is leagues better than Faddy . I dont see where he benefits the team either . When fully fit he'd be the least pacey attack minded player we have , he's average at best as a wide player and in times of shrewd financial dealings he's a drain on resources that will offer little or nothing in return . It smacks of "appeasment signing" to try and keep us sweet . We're trailing badly and the purchase of an average joe with bone china knees doesnt look like a decision that was made by a "footballing" brain .

i dont think this is particularly a bad signing as long as he dosnt want to much wages even a poor mcfadden is more than capable of scoring goals against most of the spl saying that as a rangers fan i would rather our defence was up against him rather than hooper any idea why the host of other clubs he has trained with or spoke to never took up the option to sign him or is it a case of the usual 5hite of i want to play for my boy hood heroes like every other over the hill muppet spouts when he gets a chance to play for either OF team.

Tony {Ed007's Note - His long term fitness is still extremely debatable Tony.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Oct 2011 14:12:37
just a thought but does mcfadden come with his own physio or are celts expecting to bring in another full time one if he signs ?!

I cant see this one making sense unless its a player with a name that the tic board are after to appease any unhappy fans whilst in 2nd...orry 3rd !..

Personally i aint too sure if a now fit mcfadden would make it into the celtic squad. Maybe so but thats the problem ... he aint as good as he was, guy prob hasnt played in 5/6 consecutive weekends for about 4/5 yrs ...he will be one of the top earners. At what point does this signing make sense.

As a blue nose id be more afraid of forrest than mcfadden.... mcfadden would he even get a game for scotland ? i remember levein snubbing him wen he was fit...did burley not do the same?

Germinator

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Gotta agree with you Germinator. IS this going to be a case of the board going look weve signed an EPL class player to appease the fans? ... possibly they have done it before a few times.

I still think like i mentioned earlier, with the right attitude and hard work he still has somthing to offer to Celtic as on his day can be very good. Just not consistantly... are we possibly looking at another sameras here, looks like he has all the ability in the world, but cannot put it into a performance??

I think 'That goal' in france has kindof hindered his career, it went downhill from there, folk expected that every week from him esp the scottish media when he played for scotland after that. Was it that he couldnt handle the pressure? or the extra work he may have out in fitness wise to hit those heights have a knock on effect on him and creating injury problems? who knows.

AS a (what i like to think) fair minded celtic fan, if he signs i will support him and wish him well, i can question the judgement before the deal is even confirmed and done but if it goes through theres only one way we are going to find out what he can do and thats get on the park and make a positive contribution to the team. Jurys out... if he signs.

Am I the only person who thinks we should see how how Faddy gets on till end of season?

Get him fit and and see what he has to offer.

We can't go out and splash anymore so these type signings maybe the sign of things to come.

Plus if he does sign then it pushes Sammy further out the door.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry Ed just alot got posted in short time trickycelt.! {Ed007's Note - No worries mate.}

Ed well can I your View on my point of getting rid of some players make a healthy profit get better quality in.!? {Ed007's Note - I have said for a while there are a few players I wouldn't mind seeing leaving, either with a profit being made or not. It depends on who you are talking about leaving, I wouldn't just sell any one for the sole reason of making a profit.}

I like McFadden and think we slipped up when we went for Pearson instead of him at that time.
However he does have injury problems and does not hold back in voicing his opinions in public.
So is it worth a risk for a few moments of his obvious footballing talent or will this be another false Messiah like Bellamy and Keane(s) before him?
One thing that is really worrying me is - if reports are to be believed - Hooper, Commons and Ki are set for 'The January Sales' with Kayal and McCourt also possibly heading for the exit.
This would highlight a very unhappy camp at Paradise and we need team spirit and moral to be a priority to improve and fight for trophies etc.
So maybe there are bigger issues to address at the heart of the club than 'Sticking Plaster' signings...

Hey Ed, not read the papers yet, is this McFadden story true? Not sure what to make of this, I've never really thought he was a top class player. Cmon Ed, there were at least 3 EPL clubs all trying to sign McFadden. I personally think its a good bit of business. Can you tell me who is any better than him at Celtic right now? As results show otherwise. This is the same guy who , just a couple of years back was a minimum £6m man. He is now free from injury so got to be worth a punt. Unless we just stay with Stokes , Forrest, Mc court, Samaras etc. Seems an easy choice to say "unfortunately" were gonna sign him, give the guy a break, Celtic supporter too which is something were missing. {Ed007's Note - And after trials no EPL club signed him. Why is he a good bit of business for us but wasn't for them? If he proves me wrong then fine, but I doubt he will. I suppose if he scores his first goal he will be a fantastic signing to some fans, not me. He has been out injured for over a year, his long term fitness is still a major concern hence no EPL or even Championship club offering him a contract, but he's a CFC fan so that makes everything better. Why not give the players you said a chance rather than pin your hopes on McFadden? I'd take Forrest in the team any time before McFadden

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Good Afternoon Ed, I agree with you over mcFadden, his recovery from a long term injury must be in doubt plus his level of fitness, no way would he be able to go right into first team, I also heard rumours of him being a disruptive influence, do we really need to take a chance, as you say give young players like Forrest their chance. Neil T {Ed007's Note - Good afternoon Neil. I hope you are keeping well. I honestly can't see what McFadden offers the squad that we don't already have. He supposedly held talks with Rangers during the summer, and that was when they were struggling to get players, but they didn't follow up on the talks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its fair to say the players i mentioned have all had a chance and look at us, trailing Rangers by a mile already.So to say give them a chance doesnt hold any water with me. Wolves offered him a contract. Everton wanted him on a play as you play and im sure their were numerous Championship clubs interested but didnt bother thinking he was out of their league. He isnt great , im no arguing that but to stick your nose up at him before pulling on the hoops. I hoped for better than that from yourself. {Ed007's Note - Wolves never offered him a contract and Everton didn't offer any kind of deal I can assure you. Would you care to name any of these Championship clubs you are sure were interested because myself and all the English Eds can't think of ONE. You are admitting he isn't great but think we should sign him, why?? I am being a realist, I can't see why CFC should sign an injury prone player who by your own admission isn't great. You are willing to give him a chance solely on the fact he is a CFC supporter. If any English club had offered him any form of contract he would have signed for them without hesitation. Players do not like being unattached to a club and not getting any sort of wage, that is a fact. I would expect better from a CFC fan than being so blinkered.}

Agree0 Disagree0

After discussion in my work - got to take the gamble ! At this moment in time, we have to. He could come to Celtic Park with a point to prove, keen to establish himself again. He's 28, not past it. - chrissy

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed, I am getting there last op took bit out of me, but slowly getting better. Bit of a pain having to rely on people if i want to go anywhere, but family and friends have been great. I count my blessings though as I saw people in hospital worse than me, but most kept their humour like fellow in next bed to me had a horrible crash on his motorbike and damaged his spine, he was in one of those metal brace type things screwed to his head and lower back to straighten his spine I think, anyway one day he was laughing and he says look what doctors are giving me IRON tablets. If you can smile like that chap it is half the batttle Neil T Ps that guy is probable fitter than mcFadden ha ha {Ed007's Note - I recently had metal pins removed from my ankle after 10 years Neil. I am still on crutches and need some more ops as well. There is always someone worse off than us, I only recently lost my dad after a 3 year fight with cancer, that keeps things in perspective for me. Chin up mate.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I tnd to agree with ed on this one on most things. I think he is a big big risk to take, injurys and a possible disruptive influence. Also i failed to see anywhere that he got a concrete offer to play in the EPL or championship just rumour and makebeleive by the tabloids. That said i cant deny on his day he is a no bad wee player on his day, but how often does he have those days? not very to be honest. Best i could see him doing would be used as some sort of impact player from the bench. He would be a passenger in the first team as he wouldnt do his tracking back, i cant remember him ever being one to do so. So i dont think he could be in as an automatic pick everyweek, but if he comes in with the right attitude and can avoid injuryhe could do us a turn. Sadly i feel he has been one of these overhyped scottish players who have never fulfilled what is regarded as their true potential.

Evinguu

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not pay as you play if he proves himself give him a longer deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

As far as i was to be believed Wolves offered him a contract which was rejected by himself. You seem to be nitpicking everything i say. I said being a fan helps. You now seem to think thats the avenue im going down. Put it this way , our Fanfare signings........Bangura?? - Unproven and unheard of. Ki- Unproven and unheard of. Kayal - unproven and unheard of . I could go on and and on with that one. Some of these players look like they will be ok for Celtic......others not. What im getting at is McFadden is proven both in the EPL and the SPL. Knows what its all about. With what im hearing, worked his b***s off to get FULLY fit, he has got to be worth a go. He is a good player, no great, but a good player. We are no in the business of buying great players im afraid. If thats what you expect maybe you should be Barcelona Ed.
PS. - Once Forrest has had the same number of good games as ive got fingers on one hand then you can use him in your arguement.
I hope that McFadden doesnt stumble across this site as he may feel pretty unwanted without doing anything to merit it. {Ed007's Note - Well I can assure you that no team offered McFadden any type of deal (as far as you were believed?? Who believed you??) I hope McFadden does stumble across the page. He might eventually realise that he actually isn't as good as his agent, the media and his friends lead him to believe otherwise he would still be in England. I am not nit picking everything you say, I am giving my opinion against yours and your points, that is not nit picking. It was you that mentioned he is A CFC supporter and that is what we are needing/missing. You brought it up so it must be important to you. Why sell Maloney and replace him with someone even more injury prone? After all Maloney is a CFC fan as well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

By the way Ed. No need to be rude to myself either. We all got opinions. We all dont need to agree with you. Thats the good thing about football. So the blinkered bit i take offence to.Also to say there were no offers and players dont like being without a club, Craig Brown has already admitted he tried to sign him but McFadden wanted a bigger move. So that answers that point. Or does Aberdeen not count. {Ed007's Note - I am not being rude. You are trying to pick an argument and failing miserably. I am still waiting for you to list the Championship teams that were interested. So Aberdeen were interested, so were Wolves and Everton, so why did he not sign for any them? Are they not bigger clubs than Aberdeen?}

Agree0 Disagree0

You can assure me no offer came from Wolves? I didnt realize being Ed of this wee site gave you such important boardroom seats. Anyway ive said enough about the wee man noo so i will leave it to others. One last question on the subject though. Who have we got at the minute who is better than him? As a fit and in form Mcfadden would walk into the Celtic team {Ed007's Note - Yes I can assure you 100%, can you assure me it did? Or the Championship teams that were in for him that you mentioned? I do this voluntarily, you have no idea of my occupation, position or who I know. If this wee site doesn't meet your needs feel free to leave. Everything we editors say has an identification next to it, we stand by everything we say, even to people who can't think of a tag to use to allow others to follow their conversations. You have said you have said enough about it then proceed to ask a question?? Can you assure me he is fit and in form? Otherwise it is a hypothetical question. When was the last time you saw him play to compare him with anyone? A fit and in form player from any club would be a better bet than Freddie McFadden. Oh but he is a CFC fan so worth the risk eh??}

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously dont like me for some reason Ed so i will leave the site if that suits you. I have read some comments on here which are posted which almost take my breath away due to the nature of them but i rub you up the wrong way on 1 player and i get a serious backlash. Another post twisted from yourself and i notice no players were mentioned that you feel are better than him. Anyway, i did enjoy the site and hoped i would continue to do so but i will move on with my tail between my legs.

Joeshmo1888 {Ed007's Note - AAWW diddums.If you think that's a backlash from me you haven't been around long. You engaged me in a debate about McFadden. I twisted nothing what so ever that you said and then you proceeded to belittle me and this site. Me and all the editors put a lot of work into this for no return, don't ask our opinion on things and then spit the dummy out and try to look like a smart arse when you can't handle it or don't like our answers. Why should I answer your questions when you aren't answering mine anyway?}

Following on from stuff myself Ed and The real Kb were going on about last night. Had a wee silly thought I would put forward.

Would it be possible to set up a football club as a not for profit charity type organisation, any profits on the operation of the organisation would go to the likes of Oxfam etc. Now this could mean all available revenues and income (donations) go straight into creating as competitive a team as possible. Then there are the benefits like tax exemptions. Rangers fans will love that idea!! Season tickets priced on the basis of a suggested donation to the club like dogs trust asking for a 50 quid donation when you adopt.

How would the adverts go for fundraising

“sometimes footballers have it tough ( cut to picture of a dour a faced cris commons) sometimes these players have to walk 5 minutes to get to their Bentleys and take their plastic orange girlfriends to the shopping centre. You can adopt a Celt. Just £30 a month will ensure that he is provided with top notch training facilities and help towards paying a wage to players that is inflated way above their ability and we will provide you with a ticket to see him play in his natural environment (subject to fitness, team selection and or hissy fits in the locker room), we will send you a photograph of your adopted Celt and you can stay up to date with his progress by subscribing to Celtic view. “

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - You do think too much ;-) I have no idea if that would be allowed TBH.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes i can sometimes Ed, not enough challenging me at work at the min so mind wanders. lol i will be onto thinking about the intrinsic properties of spoons in a few mins or something inane like that.

I serously dont think something like that could be allowed, for too many reasons, unless anyone has more knowledge but it is a no bad wee idea if it were possible.

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - FIFA are actually a registered charity and they seem to do OK moneywise ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that is a good point, ed surley it would have been tried by some supporter owned club at somepoint if it was possible for a club to do. But then again folk running football club tend to be in it for money, which always confuses me given the amount of clubs that actually make money, but then again directors etc are able to skim off a tidy earning from non profit making clubs too.

I actually work in the same building as some OSCR (office of the scottish charity regulator) staff i might try and query one of them on wether a club can do this at somepoint but knowing me i will forget and move onto some other theory or idea lol. there could well be laws that would prohibit a club being a charity and they would have to be a registered company

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - I'm sure Barca would like to do it, just to give their halo another glimmer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha yes get it nice and extra shiny to stick in the faces of others. Still gotta say well done on a lot of fronts to barca for things like their unicef sponsorship etc but they still tend to have this holier than thou feeling about them suppose you can afford to be a bit arrogant when you are probably the best club team on the planet at the moment, in terms of ability of course. We all know who the best club on the planet are.

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - It is all the diving and histrionics that annoy me. The last few El Classicos have been shocking adverts for football, and the Barca/UEFA/media love in is getting beyond a joke.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes indeed.... shame games??was there a furore in the spanish parliament about this? not that i saw. It was just reported as 2 'passionate' teams. sorry but piss off that was shocking for players of their calibre acting like basic thugs and neds! oh and the managers too! was a million times worse than the handbags between lennon and mccoist! yet bugger all is really done about it!

I like how alot of the time when celtic or rangers play a continental team they all say well we have to get into this continental style of play.. i.e playacting. Barca are the masters at it and have realised that cos they are technically the best they will get support from officials cos if xavi goes down without playing a defence splitting pass it must be a foul! and they play to this very well.

And yes the media is well compliant and blinkered, they seem to say, these are the best teams and if they do it ignore it cos they are the best! If hearts, celtic, rangers or a Newcastle , Stoke etc acted like this every single game like barca they would be lambasted!

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - I agree with you 100% mate. I have said for years that there are worse things happening in Europe than happens at Glasgow derbies and nothing gets the same bad publicity as we do.}

James McFadden is well past his sell by date, I don't know why Celtic would want to sign another injury prone midfielder, who are they going to drop for the place of McFadden? Commons? Is anybody actually happy that Celtic are going to probably spend premiership wages on an undoubted has-been player? {Ed007's Note - His wages will be nowhere near EPL levels.}
