General football question here.

Who is the most overrated footballer currently playing?

C*****e A**m for me. decent passer and good set pieces but how hes playing for liverpool astounds me {Ed007's Note - Gareth Bale for me.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Am no letting go of this Gareth Bale thing Ed...mark my works, saying he's over-rated will haunt you - Mrs E

Your only rated what a club is willing to pay for you, £35m Andy Carroll...£70m Fernando Torres ? {Ed007's Note - Tottenham reportedly wanted £50 million for Bale, the same price as Torres and £20 million more than Barca paid for Fabregas. LFC had said Torres was not for sale unless they got Carroll, so Chelsea basically bought Carroll for LFC (hence Newcastle naming the £35 million tag) they knew how desperate Chelsea were for the deal so Chelsea paid the Carroll fee and gave LFC £15 million.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with ed on this one Gareth Fail Bale.

Agree1 Disagree1

Time will tell but I know i'm right on this one - Mrs E {Ed007's Note - You can't be right all the time Mrs E, that is Moneypenny's job!! ;-)

Agree1 Disagree0

Andy carrol is the most overatted Liverpool wont even get half of the money that paid for him bad bad business Newcastle must have thought Christmas came early {Ed007's Note - Or late, it was a January deal :-) sorry, I couldn't resist that one.}

Agree0 Disagree0

FF81 - did you see Wales won 4-1 the other night. Defo the one's to watch in our World Cup group. Wonder if Gary Speed would come to Celtic should there be a vacancy (which I hope there isn't) - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed right fine then a very very early Christmas

Agree1 Disagree0

It's Croatia, Serbia, Belgium and Macedonia that worry me more than Wales. The reason being is battle of Britain and we will take care of them no problem. Have some faith. Even if they had 11 Gareth Fail Bales lol. Just admit it Mrs E you fancy him lol. I'm telling your husband lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

A poor left back pushed on uses pace well sometimes pretty clumsy abit, be very up and down form wise i think

davybhoy ktf {Ed007's Note - He can't defend that is why he was moved into midfield. He also holds the record for playing 24 league games for Spurs without a win (2009 I think)}

Agree1 Disagree0

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one & ED 2009 - he was only 19/20 c'mon.

Define over-rated anyway, your only worth what another club are willing to pay. Maybe Harry Redknapp feels he needs £50m to replace boy wonder lol.

Anyways...ICT at the weekend & my nerves have kicked in already - Mrs E {Ed007's Note - Well nobody else seems to value him as highly as Spurs do.}

Agree1 Disagree1

Bale the welsh Hutton ;-)

David

Agree4 Disagree3

I agree bale is overated along with carroll
but who do yous think is the most underrated player
davie c {Ed007's Note - I think Phil Jones at Man Utd has been brilliant so far this season, and I wasn't that keen on him signing TBH. Although he is getting the recognition so not really under rated I suppose. That is a toughy.............Jack Wilshire (but Real Madrid are looking at him supposedly).........Chris Samba from Blackburn I will go for or Kuyt from LFC doesn't get the praise or recognition he deserves I don't think.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Joe ledley for underrated

Let's have a wee laugh. FF81 the renaming joke yesterday has given me this idea......
The Ministry of Defence, a well known toy company and a major gaming company have come together to rename Ibrox the new name will be ........
SOLDIERS "R" WII
LOL Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nae joke Timalloy...I'm all for renaming the stadium but want something 'nice'. Given Willie Haughey's involvement..i really don't want it called City Refrigeration (unless its worth £50m at least) - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Evening Mrs E, I said a couple of days ago that Celtic were in talks with Coca Cola some years ago about the renaming rights but the timing was not right, maybe now is the time to approach them again, and sorry Mrs E my silly side says if "City refrigeration" are also involved at least our cokes will be nice and cold ha ha Lol timalloy

Good one Tim lol

Ed, you have to post this. Ewan Cameron on real radio. Listen to what Alan Rough says to him lmao.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I listened to it....you get a few stoaters on these phone-in's. Roughy...'Are you staying in tonight' lol :) - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, you should be embarrassed of yourself. How can you be an Ed on here, yet threaten poor Ewan...................Bet you thought you had got away with it...tee hee {Ed007's Note - I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about????}

Agree0 Disagree0

Really, so was it not you who phoned in to real radio? {Ed007's Note - I haven't listened to it yet but I can assure you that I very rarely listen to phone ins, they are cringe worthy to say the least, so it definitely wasn't me that phoned in, but Ewan Cameron could do with a slap anyway :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I was haviong this converstaion last night in the pub and we had a good laugh so lets see what you lot can come up with. If Rangers and Hearts Both closed(not gonna happen i know) but they can join together and become one big team. We had a name for them, colours they would wear and a stadium name and a place to play their games. I wont tell you what we came up with, but what have you lot got.

Good Evening ED007, I would like to say about the charges being brought against us for pro IRA chanting at Rennes game, I was there with my nephews and at the time was unaware of these chants, so it could not have been widespread.
If as now suggested, it was some members of the Green Brigade I would say this to them. There is nobody more proud of their Irish/Roman Catholic roots than myself, but I would ask the GB to examine their consciences and stop these stupid political songs. Do the Green Brigade want to be remembered for these songs, or for all the real good they have brought to Celtic Park with their repetoire of good and funny songs, their part in the Thai Tims etc.. the much improved atmosphere at home games, these are what we should all THANK the GB for, so come on guys, if you are TRUE Celtic fans, put Celtic first and cut out all these other songs.
We all know there are certain people, only too anxious to tar us with same brush as our bigoted Govan neighbours, do not give them any more reasons. I just Can't Get Enough, hail hail Timalloy {Ed007's Note - Good evening Tim.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Tim you can't say it's the Rangers fans that's bigoted it's rife at every club. Rangers have tried for a few years now to stamp it out as has Celtic but you still get a minority of drunk fans that still sing those songs. More so at away games as you will know if you go to away games. I don't here any sectarian songs at Ibrox but if I did I wouldn't buy my 6yr old son a season ticket every year if that was the case. As for away games it's only Hampden and St Mirren's park he's been to and the stuff those fans sung was sick and wouldn't take him back. We all know the problem is the away games with supporter full of the drink. But I've seen a big improvement in those games especially this season. So don't tar every Rangers fan as a bigot. Is it not Celtic that's under investigation? So why try and turn it on us?

Followfollow81

Agree1 Disagree0

Did anybody have a wee flutter on the horses I posted yesterday? Sorry about the gold cup one (Mon Parrain) but I hope that you backed the other one (Rebel Song).
Followfollow81

Agree0 Disagree0

Followfollow81, I take most of your points on board, there are more decent rangers fans than the morons, but sadly, I still think rangers have the bigger problem still, your banned songs are all sectarian, while ours are political ones, a difference. I said to cut out all these political songs, but I genuinely believe there are people in the press, the SNP and even among the police who want to lump us in with the worst of Rangers fans, we Celtic fans should realise this and not give them the opportunity. Timalloy
PS FF81 yes good one with your Rebel Song tip that is you 2 winners in two weeks well done

Agree0 Disagree0

Tim, surely if you have an intolerance to your Govan neighbours, that would make you a bigot. Think first, probably every single person in the planet is a Bigot in some way. Majorly overused word these days. {Ed007's Note - What complete drivel. How does not liking Rangers make you a bigot? Did you re-read this before you posted it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, the fact anyone has an intolerance to anothers views or beliefs, is a sign of bigotry. i have an intolerance of paedos and rapists................so, therefore etc. whether you agree or not does not matter. {ed007's note - That is a different matter altogether, I can't believe you stooped so low as to compare disliking a football team to things like that, away and grow up. I have far more than an intolerance towards those type of people, I have absolute hatred and disdain towards them, does that make me a bigot? No it doesn't, it makes me a decent human being. An intolerance to paedos and rapists, for the sake of common decency you should re-evaluate your outlook on life I think. people like that deserve a lot more than 'intolerance'. What a complete idiot.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, not intended as personal attack on timalloy- who did not even realise timalloys were a gang back in the day- in general, if you have intolerance of someones views or beliefs, you are by definition a BIGOT. Interestingly enough, or not, word actually came from a group who would not turn from their religion, and cried "by God". We won t mention which group were trying to turn them eh. {Ed007's Note - Hating paedophiles and rapists does not make you a bigot though by any stretch of the imagination.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To my Knowledge Timalloy they are 2 songs banned billy boys and the famine song. 2 songs that don't get sung at any ground rightly so. I don't know what other songs that are sectarian that you are talking about. They might be a couple of songs that are political but not sectarian/ bigoted. Can you enlighten me? My heads all over the place just now with the xfactor results lol.
Followfollow81 {Ed007's Note - I knew you would watch that garbage FF81 lol, I am on the laptop and Moneypenny watches it, the auditions can be funny sometimes but when it gets serious it is tripe. I bet you are all excited about that jungle thing starting as well :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

Lmao Ed. I've got money riding on the xfactor Ed lol. I know your not going to believe me but it's the wife that's watching it I'm just tagging along lol.
Followfollow81 {Ed007's Note - Aye right you are :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

X factor this year is rank rotten...talk about offensive singing ! Although, Lady Gaga with the dead body on her shoulders look..was guid. ;~) {Ed007's Note - She's a pain in the a**e that Lady Gaga, I just don't get her at all. And she has a face like a foot!}

Agree0 Disagree0

My hubby watched 'clips' of it but only to shout at it lol....he has strange taste in music. I call his a music bigot ! - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Unamed poster, yes a gang called "the Timalloys" roamed the Calton in the 1920's 1930's but they adopted the "timalloy" name. This was given a derogatory name for Irish people, but the Irish turned it around and said they were Proud to be "Timalloys" So yes I am proud to be a "Timalloy" in the true Irish meaning of it, NOT the gang.hail hail Timalloy
PS FF81 you do realise your street cred is now nil watching the X factor ha ha
PPS did you realise the irony of us talking about pro Ira songs and then your tip "Rebel Song" ha ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

She has a face like a foot lmao. What the hell happened their? I've just read back on the posts and we are on to Hating paedophiles and rapists. How did that happen? We were talking about banned songs now this how low is that. I just watch xfactor because of tulisa that's my excuse lol.
Followfollow81 {Ed007's Note - Some clown comparing not liking a football team to having an 'intolerance' to paedos and rapists. He tried to justify it so I just banned him, obviously not the sharpest knife in the box.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To that un-named poster, I would gladly watch this type of emmm person you are reffering to burn alive.

Given that Rangers have now been in front of UEFA '4' times - if you are unclear what for, I suggest you write to the club or UEFA for claification - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Good on you Ed. Why stoop so low. It's a banter page for goodness sake but that's a NO NO.
Followfollow81

Agree1 Disagree0

Timalloy your credential Just went down aswell mate. You never posted once when the xfactor was on. So I take it you were watching it aswell? At least I've got an excuse I've got money riding on it lol. I just watch it cause I've got the hots for Tulisa lol. What's your excuse?
Followfollow81 {Ed007's Note - Tim was/is a massive Take That fan I heard. Tulisa is very pretty, never really knew who she was before she was on that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The way i see it rangers and celtic have a have a problem with bigotry that needs to be stamped out it is good having a laugh but not good if it goes to far and in my opinion a lot of people say rangers are a lot worse but the both are of them do it there are just as bad it doesn't matter who does it more the full point is knowbody should do it and it does annoy me how people say rangers are worse because there not worse there as bad as each other

not a rumour but would the Celtic supporter accept Celtic Park being renamed for large sums of money. Personally I would welcome it. {Ed007's Note - I have said before I wouldn't have a problem, fans would still call it Celtic Park, Parkhead or Paradise, it is only another form of advertising and commercialism.}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

13 Nov 2011 13:03:14
The song that celtic have been reported for is Paddy McCourt's fenian army.

It will be laughed out of court as this song is not secarian. Fenian has nothing to do with religion .
Fenians was an Irish Republican Brotherhood organisation dedicated to the establishment of an independent Irish Republic.

The term Fenian is still used today, especially in Northern Ireland and Scotland, where its original meaning has expanded to include all supporters of Irish nationalism, as well as being used by some as a sectarian term for Irish Catholics ( i.e Rangers fans use it as a sectarian term . But in reality its has nothing to do with catholics .

So as everyone one point's out our brave troops are over sea's fighting for our freedom . One of our freedoms are freedom of expression and there is no law in the UK or Europe against political expression but there is a law against religious expression .

So i look forward to the UEFA hearing to see what they say, as if celtic get done then laws on all football songs will have to change such as .
National Anthems will have to be changed such as
The Soldier's Song / Flower of Scotland / God save the queen also songs such as the damb busters, Rule brittania as all these song's are political and can be deemed as offensive to people .

So if celtic get done on this then all laws on football singing have to be changed .

Everyone has the freedom to express there political veiw . No matter what . {Ed007's Note - If it is that song then there is no case to answer really although I disagree that everyone has the freedom to express their political views, especially at a football match.}

Believable3 Unbelievable5

I understand you saying you dont agree with everyone having freedom to express there political views . especially at a football match. but there is no law against it and to do so would breach there human rights . We might not all Agree with the BNP but what they do is not against the law . thats there political veiw . Everyone is entitled to theie veiws thats what the british constitution says. {Ed007's Note - Everyone is entitled to their own political views, but they have nothing to do with football or any sport along with sectarianism. I take it you are not offended by Rangers fans singing the Famine Song? It is some of their political views after all? Politics will always cause or add to any heated situation, and a football ground is no place for them to be aired or debated by a sing song. Better still, why don't we start singing about how the coalition government are messing up all our lives, jobs being lost left, right and centre, riots in London, the Dale Farm situation, we could sing about the Greek financial meltdown (well Samaras does play for us) we could say it is to show support for his country. I am being sarcastic there BTW.}

Agree1 Disagree1

The Famine song aint political it's rasist .
I for one would like all the PRO IRA, UDA , UVF songs put out of football but if you take certain political songs away then you have to take all political songs out including National Anthems such as Flower of Scotland / God save the queen / and the soldier song . the damb buster song / rule brittania as all these songs offend sertain people also thusands of other teams songs will be barred .

If you do it against one team then all teams should be affected.

And good luck to UEFA or FIFA trying to tell Scotland / England or Ireland to change the national Anthem

Agree0 Disagree1

To the initial post, so fenian is only sectarian when it comes from rangers supporters, something not quite right with that. {Ed007's Note - The word Fenian is not classed as illegal. I usually use F****n in case people get offended by it's use. The word H*n is illegal and we are legally bound not to use it on this site. Again though, the law is as clear as mud.}

Agree1 Disagree0

I have spoken to many Rangers fans who admit singing the billy boys and they always thought F****n was based on Irish Catholic's . The first post come's from the f****n wiki. i was saying that in reality f****n is not sectarian.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think education is the way forward for some of the 'words' used ! Some folk sing songs because they believe it makes them look Rangers/Celtic thru & thru instead of a complete ignorant ar*****e.

On a different subject but only going to get worse in West Of Scotland, the poppy is turning into a major issue. Some aren't wearing it with 'pride' or 'dignity'...its a sign of the team they support, talk about pimping the poppy (a disgrace) ! - Mrs E

Agree2 Disagree0

So,if that is the case, would the "Billy Boys" be allowed back with its add on lyrics? Or is it the fact that blood shed is mentioned is the problem? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, {Ed007's Note - It is classed as a sectarian song, I don't make the rules/laws. If the words were changed to an acceptable level then there would be no problem with it that I can see.}

Agree0 Disagree0

AWW, here was me thinking you did make all the rules and laws, disappointed. Technically, it should be a "political" song- as celtic fans like to say. It could be argued it is actually racist against pro Irish republicans. Its all politics at the end of the day anyway. {Ed007's Note - It can not be classed as a political song because of the wording.}

Ed...did you see Gazza last night. What a poor soul, the demon drink really has a lot to answer for. Arguably one of the best footballers England have produced - Mrs E {Ed007's Note - His lifestyle has certainly taken it's toll. I always wonder what would have happened to him if he had chose Man Utd over the bright lights of London with Spurs when he left Newcastle, would AF have sorted him out and kept him on the straight and narrow?}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Mr Bluenose in my house has said the same of Alan McGregor...if he's ever sold to a London club would be Charlie Nicholas all over again.

Unfortunately for Gazza, we'll never know. I still feel his pain when he cried at the World Cup & I don't like the auld enemy. - Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree1

Sorry chaps but in complete disagreement with the feeling sorry for him. He is/was a wife beater simple as that, and as so deserves to reap what he has sewn.
As his his footballing skills, cannot be questioned - he was a fantastic player.
John

Agree4 Disagree2

Too true...I never said I felt sorry for him as such, just the demon drink has a lot to answer for. All that talent & what happened ?!

A big bug bear I have is the step-daughter. Her own Dad is alive & well so why does she insist on using the Gascoigne name given the history.. - Mrs E {Ed007's Note - To help her career, no other reason. Gazza had too many hangers on and people giving him the wrong advice. He was their meal/beer ticket so nobody wanted to upset him by telling him he needed help years ago, even before he joined Rangers. When he signed for Lazio one of the first things he done was offend the club president's daughter with a crude remark about her chest:

www.vintagebluekipper.com/players/gazza/gazza.html

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with Ed it's mostly down to the hangers on (five bellies) If your best mate was in the state he was in you think they would have helped him. But since his money has nearly ran out they are no sign of any of them. What you said about SAF Ed do you really think he would have sorted him out? I thought Walter Smith would have been the man to sort him out. He did to some extent. A manager can only do so much but once they leave the training ground at the end of the day it's up to the individual but Gazza being Gazza he loved to be the life and soul of a party. Easily lead astray. But they are one thing he will always be a legend in the eyes of the Rangers fans.

Ed did you have a look at that what I sent you? Lol

Followfollow81 {Ed007's Note - I think AF would have sorted Gazza out as he was young enough and AF would have kept him on a short leash. What did you send mate? The Countdown thing??}

Just a note on this potential fine from UEFA. First game I've been to in a while and the atmosphere was absolutely superb, the singing was brilliant and rallied the team to a fine win. Now I was at the opposite stand to the Green Brigade but they (as always) got the place rocking!I was delighted with how many chants and songs we have that don't necessarily need to mention politics in the ground so I'm astonished this accusation has come up from the'top cop'. I assume that its the Celtic symphony which has prompted this stupid accusation Ed? Now ok the chant (we all know it) maybe isn't for the ground but I'm sure others will back me up saying it was chanted by about 50 fans and died out in 50 seconds as out great fans remain silent..is this how desperate the establishment are becoming to pin something on us? Well one chant I particularly enjoyed from the game that's appropriate for this claim is bhoys, "GET INTO THEM" {Ed007's Note - As I have said, we have plenty of songs (Irish ones included) that don't mention the IRA.}
