Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

13 Feb 2015 23:10:17
I don't mean to sound terribly negative but I have a feeling that tomorrow's game is coming too soon. We are now in the middle of a very hectic schedule and I thought Celtic in the final third of the park against PT looked a little off.

I sensed a "tiredness" creeping in. PT made the game "long" and extended us without throughout without peppering the goal, but they made us work harder than we probably felt was necessary. This (in my view) led to too many stray passes and inefficient use of the ball in the final third in second half.

With Thursday's game on the horizon, I think there may be an eye on that too. Will we press high and at such a frenetic pace?

I'm not so sure.

I would be making a few changes tomorrow but will RD do it. I would be resting Johanssen

It is a toss up between Guidetti and Griffiths. If the latter is fit I think he needs to play to get a level of sharpness (but not the whole game)

Will we go with Fisher and rest Matthews so as to avoid an injury for our only available senior right back with Lustig out?

Could Henderson come in?

This will be very interesting tomorrow. Would a GMS or an Armstrong be appropriate for Thursday evening (I would personally say no), so does that mean they start tomorrow or would RD want the team closest to the Inter starting line up BUILDING UP R/SHIPS before Thursday match (to avoid ring-rustiness)

We are in a domestic dog fight with Aberdeen looming in early March and so a weakened team tomorrow would be a gamble.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. Inter on the horizon. New players needing to bed in. No continuity at number 9.no obvious Commons replacement and the new lads lacking european experience (certainly BIG GAME experience)

If it were me tomorrow I would be going with
gordon, fisher, Izzy, VVD, Ambrose, Brown, Bitton, Armstrong, Guidetti, GMS and Henderson

Team for Inter would be
Gordon, Matthews, Izzy, VVD, Denayer, Bitton, Brown, Johanssen, Griffiths, Armstrong and Johansen

Believable0 Unbelievable7

There were some signs we were a little frayed at times. I thought in the second half we tried to play too quickly at times and rushed our final pass, perhaps we could have put our foot in the ball on occasions and dragged PT around the park some more. In saying that we looked really fit and as long as we don't go gung hi against Milan I think we can give a good account. I would like to see Griffiths back in I thought JG struggled for pace against thistle which is a bit worrying

Agree0 Disagree0

You said that GMS and Armstrong wouldn't be suitable to throw in against Inter and then put Armstrong in your starting XI. Personally I think they could both hold their own in the EL but it's all down to Ronny at the end of the day.

Agree1 Disagree0

I thought both GMS and Armstrong showed how tired they were in the last half hour . This is understandable as they having been playing the very fast high pressuring game that Deila has Celtic attempting all season, with Dundee Utd. I trust Deila will know best whether to play them tomorrow or not . He will want to get them up to the sustained high speed that he requires as soon as possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope that decision to have a mid season break doesn't come bac to haunt us.
I notice in a couple of weeks, we have
Inter Milan away on the Thursday, Aberdeen home on the Sunday, St Johnstone home on the Wednesday, and Dundee United away on the Sunday.
If tiredness is beginning to creep in, then these are the type of games that we could struggle in, as we will need to keep going for the 90 minutes. Against the likes of Dundee and Partick, we could stroll through parts of the games, but against better teams, it won't be so easy.
I think we should only be taking mid season breaks, if the whole league is having a break, otherwise you end up cramming fixtures in, when you don't really want them,

Agree0 Disagree0

Utter rubbish,Celtic will win with plenty to spare today. Our fitness is second to none and we have a manager that is second to none. RD will be with us for years and will win more trophies than Lenny ever did!! Hail Hail

@OP - What you need to remember is that the 2 new signings do not have the same level of fitness as our current squad and that is why you probably thought we lacked intensity at times. I reckon we will probably see Henderson and Forrest today.

I think that's something you will see isn't a big issue as the physics of the players are getting better and better, not only during games but also niggling injuries will not happend that often. The first league game after traveling from Italy will show you how much it has worked.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said earlier in the week that we can still improve and the final pass (or sometimes any pass) is not good enough; so we need to keep up the hard work and winning momentum and use the full squad.
The defence has played a huge part in the successful run - not to mention Scott Browns form and any injury or loss of form there could be very significant as although we have midfielders in abundance, we have little quality cover in defence and I include goalie
RD rarely plays the same team twice in a row, but has done so today, so he obviously thinks the new bhoys will deal with the pressure and expectancy.
I still worry about the missed chances and chopping and changing Griffiths and Guidetti just when Griffiths seemed to be going on a nice wee run of form?
However, we are actually expecting to win every week and it's been a while since we had that confidence, especially when it seems we are away from home every week?

See the loan boy went down with cramp. What do you expect with zero hours contract and a 8 hour shift in sports direct before the game

Believable1 Unbelievable0

They must ALL be on zero hour contracts IMO

Because that is what they are all doing ZERO lol not that I am complaining :-)

Stubbs must surely be considered as a future Celtic manager- learning all the time and his team plays the way the game should be played

Believable0 Unbelievable6

Why? what is wrong with RD? I wish Stubbs all the best on his new career, But I hope RD is with us for a long time to come

Agree7 Disagree0

I expect Deila to have a long successful career at Celtic . I don't think he will ever be tempted to the EPL . Stubbs will head south if he builds a good reputation at Hibs .

With his close ties with everton I think that's where he will end in the future

Agree1 Disagree0

I was no treflecting on R.D who I think is getting to grips with it now, merely suggesting that, at whatever stage in the future, Stubbs could well be a strong runner

Agree0 Disagree0

Can understand that. But for me I am just enjoying the RD moment long may it continue

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance. Managing a championship team, is no merit to be considered for celtic managers job. He has done absolutely nothing in his short managerial career. You have to remember sevco are just a run of the mill championship team and nothing special beating them

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris I think its a bit naïve to think RD won't be off if 1 o the big boys came in for him. What kind of ambition would it show if he didn't go? Managers know these days the sack is only just around the corner. So they tend to move around a lot esp1s from the continent. I would luv him to be here for years as it would show success, the big boys comin in for him also means he been successful tho.

Watching the Sevco game tonight (going for a shower after ) but this evil thought came to me, their mob used to laugh at us during the "Wayne Biggins" years sadly Sevco have 11 players now not even up to Biggins standard lol

This is hillarious! Watching it from my work fair cheers me up on a friday night! I have never seen such a nervy unorganised mob in my puff. oh wait. we destroyed them last week CHORTLE CHORTLE

Let's not lose sight of the fact that this was Hibs game. They controlled everything.

Hope Scepovic gets a run of games and starts producing goals. 4-2-3-1 formation is same formation sporting de gijon play and he managed 23 goals in 39 games. Now we have solid midfield I geniunely believe he will get back on form if given chance

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I feel sorry for Scepovic, I think he was unlucky that Guidetti played so well domestically at the start of the season . When Guidetti's form slipped and when he no longer deserved to start domestically Griffiths put up his hand and demonstrated he deserved his chance, Scepovic has once again, not necessary through his own fault been pushed away from the first team spot .
Signing for Celtic as a striker can be a thankless task .

Agree1 Disagree0

I dunno why it hasn't happened yet. Guidetti has had more than his fair share of chances. I think the way Scepovic moves and looks to bring others into it will suit the system too.

Agree1 Disagree0

Maybe it's just time to settle and I know he's had time but Spain to Scotland can be a culture shock but did he really want to come?

Agree1 Disagree0

Jim I don't know what happened to Guidetti. i'm beginning to think he is not suited to lone striker role and needs someone to play alongside.

Biton after getting a run of games, is playing really well. Just think the same could apply to Scepovic.

Agree1 Disagree0

Griffiths for me as the striker to the end of the season at least, I don't think Scepovic is going to have enough to make himself first choice striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Dn30, you may be right, but as long as Griffiths is scoring regularly and if Guidetti comes in from time to time and plays as well as he did on Wednesday, then I cannot see Deila giving Scepovic a run . Imagine the uproar there would be if Scepovic was given a run to see if he could do it and we dropped points in the league and lost a cup game .
It just doesn't make sense .

Agree1 Disagree0

Griffiths is doing well domestically as has stokes in prior seasons. Problem we have, is we need someone to do it in europe and like stokes, griffiths isnt.

I hope he does well and proves me wrong, but I've not seen anything to suggest he is more than just a right good SPL striker.

Might be wrong here but did scepovic not score his goals in europe? can't think off top of my head

I see a report on bbc transfer page that Olivier Giroud almost joined us in 2012, don't remember that ever being banded about, ed can u shine some light on it?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - 2012? I thought it was 2010 when he said we weren't a big enough 'trampoline' to the EPL for him.}

I remember it as ed said he didn't think it would get him to the prem and went to league 1

I posted yesterday about how the new BT deal will increase revenue for reaching the group stages of the champions league, and I see today's Evening Times has an article on this also. I guessed Celtic should make minimum of £22m from group stages but can anyone on here give us more accurate breakdown figures of the group stages to Celtic. I would imagine several factors will come into play, money from UEFA for qualifying, bonus for every points gained, advertising, corporate sponsorship and attendance money.

Believable7 Unbelievable13

Tim I think your prob right with the amount of money. But I wudnt know the beakdown. I know I stating the bleeding obvious but the important thing for me here is, we will have better players being in to not being in it. We all want to see the best players possible come to Celtic and the only way of doing that is to qualify, esp when we lose 1 or 2 players per season now.

Ed, I notice that the menu on left has changed and some links are missing. No Dodgy Sightings or Polls of the day. Is it just my server or is there a problem?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed033's Note - No, just cutting down on the number of links on the menu to pages that aren't visited much.

Shame, I post funny pics fairly regular. Ach well que sera sera

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the pages are still there, you can still access the dodgy sightings from the sightings page, we are just trying to clear up the amount of links on the left. There were so many on each site that people didn't really notice half of them. The idea is to make it clear that pics, dodgy and otherwise, will be just one link to follow to find them all.}

Thanks. Just used to the old norm. I like the idea of less clutter.

Agree0 Disagree1

ED001 is the link still there for the sports page where the EDS and punters offer football and horse racing tips

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - should be mate. The site is certainly still there!}

Could have started by getting rid of the Premiership videos Ed ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they pay per views so we have that up. We could embed it in the main pages to get more money, but we put it there where you can choose to ignore it if you don't want to see. I wish we could get rid of all the ads to be honest, but it is not an option unless we start charging people to use the sites.}

Fair enough mate. I do my bit by clicking on them like 007 suggested.

{Ed007's Note - (yes)
