Thoughts - is Jordon Rhodes worth a punt?

He's too lazy for our style I'd say.

13 Apr 2017 21:33:20
how many clubs has this player been at and really produced hehaw.

13 Apr 2017 21:56:40
Don't think he's ever lived up to the early hype, who knows if it's laziness or poor choices in his career moves. If anyone can get more out of him I'd put money on Rodgers being the man.

Kev bhoy - What about Joey Garner? ☘️.

13 Apr 2017 22:37:19
Jfp would rather keep moussa and griff so just no room for Rhodes imo✌️.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Apr 2017 22:42:47
Im sure he would. bag a hat full domestically, but in Europe? Would doubt he's what we're looking for.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Apr 2017 07:32:43
Rhodes would score a barrel load for us used properly but i think he would benefit with a strike partner and we know BR has his system and that's 1 up top 99% of the time.

Seems like another Tony Watt - great potential and ability - but lack of motivation, hard work and attitude.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Apr 2017 12:15:44
Rhodes is a more expensive version of Tony Watt LAZY.

So the post split fixtures have been released and as we all know way before they were announced the computer has sent us to the asbestos dome. seriosly have a missed something bhoys.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - It's 2 home games and 2 away games a season, everyone knew we still had to go to Ibrox.}

{Ed007's Note - That's your age and prostate mate ;)

13 Apr 2017 21:23:29
I know it's not Celtic related, but I would do away with the split. I don't know why it's done.
Ross County have to play 20 away matches against 18 at home, if they were relegated by a point they'd have every right to kick up a stink.
Also you could have a scenario where a team in sixth place could end up with more points than the team finishing third, if that were ever to happen, I wonder who would qualify for Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Spot on, Gerry the split's a farce and we should get shot of it.}

13 Apr 2017 22:04:47
It's never really worked for me, someone always loses out n a can remember a few times where 7th has more points than 6th but it's because it makes us look like a mickey mouse league that I hate it. It's a daft gimmick that should never have seen the light of day. And it is celtic related mate, we need to take part in it every year.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2017 10:14:02
Can't mind but was it not part of a better tv related Β£ deal to squeeze an extra game against them?

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Apr 2017 11:35:25
It makes us (even more of) a laughing stock and serves no real purpose, apart from guaranteeing half the clubs more money from Celtic fans. The bottom 6 are left to play out meaningless fixtures in front of a handful of folk, a wee boy up a tree, tow pigeons and a crisp poke.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2017 17:30:25
I remember a few years ago when Hibs were in the spl. They lost 5 or 6 of their games before the split when they were sitting mid table. After the split and they were in bottom 6 they won most of their games Heard from a player it was deliberate as they knew if they were bottom 6 they would get more win bonuses. Seemed to work for them πŸ˜‚.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2017 18:35:26
Rglen8, pre split everyone played each other 4 times twice at home twice away so there is no extra game against them with the split, it was a way of extending the number of clubs in the league, while not increasing the number of games, we should extend the top league to 18 play each other twice, 34 games, finish the season end of April , players get month of and back for pre season training the 2 nd week of June to get them up to speed for the European qualifiers in the Third week of July , something must be done to get the likes of Aberdeen and the rest to pull there weight in Europe , it can't always be Celtic left to prop up the coefficient.

Agree0 Disagree2

15 Apr 2017 10:25:03
Haha you can't be serious about "Celtic propping up the coefficient"? Enlighten me as to what exactly Celtic have done for Scottish football in Europe over the last 3 or 4 years apart from a freak draw against man city (similar to Warsaw getting a freak draw at home to Madrid) and a draw away at man city against their reserves in a meaningless end of group game?

I'm not slating Celtic here, my point is Scottish football is where it is because of the money available to 6 or 7 bigger leagues in Europe. In the past big games for Celtic and rangers were champions league group games. Now though Celtics big games are the qualifiers.

Get through them then it's a case of take the money and run. While football is the way it is that won't change as it's impossible for Celtic and Scottish clubs to compete.

This is what I could see happening, just my opinion and thought so let me know if you agree or disagree but I could see Celtic end up signing around 8, now that's seems silly but I'll explain. I think his first three main targets will be players who can have a big impact in Europe and the first team. Now for me borini who they've been linked with is a good signing, especially at 4 million, relegation Clause and his versatility. The next player I think he should target is Eric konsa, the CB from charlton who's highly rated and considering celtic have 3 good centre backs who will only get better a young player who won't demand first team football straight away is good. Then an attacking midfielder, someone like Celina who's doing very well in the Dutch league on loan from Man City would possibly fit the bill. Then if dembele goes and I think he will, plus also Griffiths I could see Rodgers loaning out or selling you'll need st least two strikers, the Ligue 2 current top scorer Maine who has 20 goals and a 6 million release clause, only 23 would be a very good signings and then maybe Cummings from Hibernian. Maybe loan or swap deal with Griffiths, maybe add Henderson with it. Then deals for the young midfielder McGree, from the A league, only 18 and hopefully a compensation fee for willock, the 18 year old winger from arsenal would complete the business. Maybe with Scott Bain who Celtic could probably get for around 800k as back up for gordan with the aim to replace him eventually too. With izaguirre, bailey, toure ( coaching role) ? Ambrose, commons, dembele, Griffiths, Allan, O'Connell, janko, mackay-Stevens, Henderson, Roberts all out and ajer and Christie added back into the squad Celtic, new contract for Armstrong That would wrap up the business. That would be around the 25 mill mark for transfer fees, with the sale of dembele, van dijk sell on clause and quite high earners finally leaving in commons, izaguire and Griffiths it would make Celtic even more finically strong with even bigger profits next year.

Get rid of Dembele and Griff and bring in Jason Cummings πŸ‘.

13 Apr 2017 15:01:07
Cummings for griffiths AND henderson? Am i missing something about this boy.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Apr 2017 15:25:16
Definitely would not be swapping a proven Leigh griffiths for Cummings never mind adding Henderson into the deal as well, have got a lot of time for Lee and if he keeps his head down and is happy to be rotated would love him to stay.

One bit of this I'd like to pick up on luke.
Why would we get rid of Griffiths for Cummings?
Why would we get rid of Griffiths at all? The guy is a goalscorer.

Agree2 Disagree2

13 Apr 2017 15:28:57
I'd have borini and konsa but all the rest are not even remotely near celtic class and I don't see Griffiths leaving either tho do expect a bid for dembele.

13 Apr 2017 15:34:29
hes overrated amber, according to what i've heard dembele and griffiths will definitely be at celtic next season. good to see you back on the page mate.

13 Apr 2017 15:08:26
Canny see 8 mate, Rodgers has said all along it'll be quality over quantity. Plus he's said no top players will be leaving before the cl qualifiers, if we get through again which we will then I think dembele would fancy another swing at it wae us.

13 Apr 2017 17:34:14
i would get rid of BR and get Luke in too.

14 Apr 2017 09:25:22
Jason Cummings would be another riordon Allen farce signing not even good enough for the reserves
Compare him to waghorn who shone last season in the championship but has struggled to make the step up.

RT10, I get several disagrees virtually every post yet very rarely are they put into words. I guess it's just the Ninja squad of the Keyboard Warriors. It would be a heck of a lot more entertaining if people could put something into words and create a wee bit of friendly debate.

ther is not a chance in hell Rodgers makes so many changes to an already successful squad as he has previously said that was one of his main mistakes at liverpool buying quantity over quality with the money from the sale of Suarez etc. Everyone is entitled to ther opinion as it is exactly that, ther opinion but the Griffiths swap for Cummings is absolutely ludicrous to me and a few of the other signings i do not know so mch abt, Alban Lafont from France would be an unreal signing for us as a keeper young but would costa bomb but in my opinion it would be an investment as him and Donnarumma for me are going to be at the top of the game for the forseeable future.

i think O, connell Ajer, Henderson and Mcgregor could all be decent squad players for us that we can use when required and see how they develop. I don't really like the signing of players from other SPL clubs most of the time as they are generally no better than what we have with the exception of a few in the past.

Just wanted to say well done to Boston Celtics for winning the Eastern Conference and gaining home court advantage in the play offs, and just like our Glasgow version they play a team of Bears next.
Any team that plays in green and white and has CELTIC in the name we all support. GO CELTICS.

I must say I'm very underwhelmed at the thought of signing Fabio Borini. The guy averages under 5 goals a season in all competitions.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

13 Apr 2017 09:28:34
He'd surely only be coming in as back up to Dembele. He has failed to live up to the early potential shown. It would probably be a similar move to SS, in that BR will be hoping to get the best out of him again. Given how difficult it would be to get the right striker in as back up it might not be too bad, but I was hoping for better myself Kev.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Apr 2017 11:22:54
The difference with SS is that he had performed well consistently for Swansea in the Championship and Premier League which got him his big move to City. I'd rather have LG as back-up to MD.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Are people forgetting what happened between Rodgers and Borini at Liverpool? The way the player was treated and the way they parted company means it would be nigh on impossible that Borini would be interested in a move to work under Rodgers again and I seriously doubt Rodgers would want to work with him either.}

13 Apr 2017 12:12:12
Very expensive back up jimtim. we've got a 40 goal striker who can back moussa up! Borini is a decent player and can play a few positions, but with the fee and wages he'd command then it's a no for me!

Our priority should be a quality number 10 And top class centre half, and if I'm being greedy another right winger for when paddy goes back! But I trust Brendan on whoever he feels is right for us! Hopefully an exciting summer transfer window for us πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ».

13 Apr 2017 14:40:37
Borini said they didn't speak at all near the end of there time at Liverpool, so can't see why Brendan would go for him now.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Apr 2017 15:27:42
Lh86, we definitely need another striker. Few times this season we've played with no striker because of injury.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Apr 2017 14:53:39
Same Ed, I have no idea what happened between the 2 of them. Don't pay much attention to EPL stories.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers didn't like the fact that the Borini transfer was a disaster and the player refused to join Sunderland on a permanent deal so Rodgers banished him to train himself. The player and his agent blasted both Rodgers and Liverpool over his treatment and that's why I would be amazed if there was any truth in this story - Rodgers would need to do some crawling to reach out to Borini and we know the manager never admits mistakes which it would look like - by the time the Italian left Liverpool him and Rodgers weren't even on speaking terms.
We have Dembele and Griffiths so Borini would be 3rd choice for a start, so a 26 year old player Rodgers broke promises to and banished to train himself is going to be happy sitting on our bench at best?
One of the things Borini has mentioned is the fact that he was never brought into the Liverpool squad even when they had no fit strikers so that shows how far out of Rodgers thoughts and plans he was.}

13 Apr 2017 16:16:32
Looks like it won't be Borini then. I wasn't aware of that story I just thought BR took him to Liverpool and FB struggled to make an impact. Still think we need another striker Lh86, as Aitchison obviously isn't part of the firat team plans just yet. Like I said getting the right man in to play as back-up will be a bit of a tough task.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Apr 2017 16:36:14
Totally agree kev83. we definitely need cover up front. i would think it would maybe an up and coming young striker who wouldn't mind being left out some times, rather than an expensive more experienced striker who wants to play every game! Which won't happen with dembele at the club. but agree 100% we need another striker to cover dembele and griff!
