Do you think we could finally put the Finabogssen (spelling) situation to bed? Everytime we don't score enough, or are linked with a striker the boards scream out with people sayng we should have signed him. Does anyone genuinely think he wanted to sign for us? We play in a nothing league, with six big champs league games per year? What genuine top quality player is going to join us with our current wage structure? I think it's time we all moved on chaps. I know we would all walk through walls to play for the hoops but that doesn't mean foreigners would. need to either pinch someone for a couple of mil (bangura, hooper, puuki) and hope they they develop into quality players, or develop youngsters. I think the days of us buying a proven 30 goals per season player (in a decent league) are long gone. let's move on from Finabogssen, its getting old. Neilbhoy. {Ed007's Note - Neil, Finnbogason was very interested in moving to CFC. The reason it never happened can only be answered by Peter Lawwell. Didn't van Dijk make the same move from Holland to our nothing league in Scotland? Cardiff, Newcastle and West Ham are now showing strong interest in signing Finnbogason.
If we keep scraping the barrell for striker options we will end up wasting more money than if we just invested in the finished article.
The board and Peter Lawwell let the club, the fans and the manager down during the summer, just like they had the previous year with Miku and Lassad.
I would not be surprised in the slightest if NL looks at available options for himself next summer. Our board are hindering him in doing his job to the best of his abilities. We need a proven goal-scorer brought in ASAP. Sometimes you just have to pay the going rate for that bit better a player.}

Fair points Ed but perhaps the fact we never signed him had more to do with the other clubs interested him rather than anything Peter Lawell has done? let's not get into the economics of player wages against what the club can afford, (Samaras/Stokes/ledley out of contract and would no doubt demand parity, which would make it more expensive etc etc) but there has to be more to it rather than just a few quid. Maybe VVD just wanted to play for the hoops?! Love the site Ed, and I don't contribute much- just fed up with Augusts failings still being dwelt upon in November. Great work Ed. Cheers, Neilbhoy. {Ed007's Note - Thanks Neil. I wasn't having a pop mate, just explaining the Finnbogason scenario from what I know of it. The fact that August's failings are still relevant speaks volumes, wouldn't you agree? I can't see any serious money being spent in January, which is too late IMO, so the board need to step up next summer. With two CL campaigns, the Hooper and Wanyama money there surely a £4/5 million proven player isn't too much to ask?
Even NL has started making noises about the wage structure might needing to be raised.}
I wrote in the summer edd that the board has let the fans down badly and you defended them and slated me, at least you have now seen sense. {Ed007's Note - I also slated you for this:
What about papa diop, Titus bramble, Michael Owen, John Carew, Louis Saha all out of contract and wouldn't command big wages, surely least 1could do a job for a yr..ajw
Or even this:
Defoe £30k pw 3yr contract every single thing we need in a striker and more importantly give the supporters a massive lift..we talk about giving pukki balde time to settle which is a big mb right, but who was the last prolific scorer we had that needed time.£4m is a big sum to spend on players who need time esp in a2nd league which we keep getn told we have.
I don't see you anonymously taking credit for those nuggets of wisdom.
What I said was to give the board until the end of the window, that is what I done and since then have quite openly criticised them.}
I and many celtic fans would take Defoe, finnbogason and johannsson who av mentioned many of time mr edd. {Ed007's Note - Where would Defoe's £60k a week wage come from along with the circa £3million transfer fee? A 31 year old striker who has flattered to deceive his whole career and averages a goal every 2.5 games and has only scored 20+ goals twice in a career spanning 14 years. Yeah great value for money that is.}
Can we put the Defoe thing to bed, he is touting for a move to West Ham. He is vastly overrated and demands more than we will ever pay and at 31 his best years are behind him.
The fact we didn't push the boat out for Finboggasson, who wanted to come is the biggest travesty our board have carried out in years. The boy has it all and will one day become a world class striker.
Ed is there any truth linking us with the boy Piatti who can't get a game at Valencia? {Ed007's Note - I would be surprised if we signed Piatti. First of all a WP could prove problematic, just because he has dual nationality does not guarantee he will get a WP. I think his agent could be using our name to drum up interest, the player's preference is to remain in Spain.}
Finbogason this Finbogason that there is every chance he could have been a flop just like many others who have flopped in other leagues they've moved to.
Well considering he's scored goals in Iceland, Belgium, Sweden + now Holland. I have my doubts he'd flop in the SPL Monkeybhoy. The fact we were "interested" along with AC Milan, Werder Bremen, Augsburg, Zenit and Cardiff in the summer and now Aston Villa, Newcastle + HSV are tracking him confirms how well thought of this lad is. Just a shame PL couldn't for once stop being a tight fisted penny pinching scoundrel.
HamiltonBhoy
Why would he want to come play in Scotland, when if what you are saying is correct there was interest from Italy, England and Germany! And why is he still in holland! How do you know what PL did or didn't do maybe the player fancied AC Milan and is holding out. Point is we didn't sign him he doesn't play for us so forget about him {Ed007's Note - How do you know I don't know what PL did or didn't do? It's blatantly obvious I know more than you about the entire scenario and a lot of my knowledge on it comes from the Dutch side of the situation.}
Well ed you didn't know enough to realise a was replying to hamilton bhoy who had replied to me. A never questioned your knowledge of the whole scenario so dnt really see why your having a go at me. {Ed007's Note - You started with 'Why would he want to come play in Scotland' when it is well known he would have no problem moving here, he has stayed here in the past while his father studied over here. Plus you weren't signed in so I thought that you were just trolling and you never addressed your post directly to HamiltonBhoy.}
A stand by it why would he have wanted to come to Scotland if all the teams mentioned above were interested the German leagues is the best around AC are 1 of the biggest arround playing in a good league and we all know about the premiership. Maybe PL tried but he was holding out for a better league.
A Thot you could still tel who it was when you log out? A seem to log out from time to time {Ed007's Note - I can tell if I search your previous posts. There is a difference between clubs being interested and clubs making a bid for a player. His agent (and club) would have been well aware of the seriousness of interest from elsewhere.
The point people are trying to make MB is that this deal was a real possibility to sign a quality player and a ready made replacement for Hooper, he could even have turned out to be better than Hooper.
The question is why did the deal collapse when it was so far down the line? Because the board done their usual and went down the cheap route looking to unearth another gem rather than buy the finished article for once.
Yet we are still struggling for goals from our strikers, which one of our present strikeforce would you confidently predict will score. Balde, Pukki or Stokes? They have scored nine goals between them this season, that's embarrassing, van Dijk has scored the same amount of goals as Balde and Pukki.
What we need is a goal-scorer/poacher to play infront Stokes/Pukki, neither of them are prolific scorers and play their better football playing just off a main striker, a main striker we don't have.
It has, and will continue to, cost us dearly on the park.}
Am not disagreeing we need a goalscorer it's getting proved almost every game, as a said a didn't claim to know all about the scenario a didn't no we were in negotiations and that PL had messed about and it fell through. Ma point being if he new of interest from all these other clubs maybe he was hoping they would come in maybe even January and was holding out. Ma original post was we didn't sign him so fu*k him he doesn't play for us
Well Ed, hopefully the rights and wrongs of the last transfer window will have been digested and lessons learned for the next time. I agree we should be looking at proven players, but don't think they are willing to gamble just yet. Maybe when the zombies are back the tin might get opened but until then I can't see them gambling most of their budget on one player. Here is hoping though! Neilbhoy. {Ed007's Note - We all live in hope Neil. I'm not looking for a team full of multi-million pound superstars, just one or two top quality signings.
Adding a creative CM/CAM and proven goal-scorer would most probably transform the whole team.}

Ed is spot on with this one. Finbaggason stated at the time he would most certainly be open to a move to Celtic. It's well know that John Park discussed the player with Lawell & it was decided (wrongly in my opinion), that the lad was not worth risking a 5 million fee on. Celtic is still an attractive option to many young scandanavian players! Sick of the negativity from some people lately!
Is it not negative for people to keep having a go at PL, weather people think they no the ins and outs of what went on with the deal am pretty sure they don't no it all. A wasnt being negative would have loved a striker of quality but we didn't get 1
