Ed what do you think of Fasan? Why is he not getting a shot?

I think he has the quality but needs games in spl to show and prove himself more. His kicks are a lot better then gg as they tend to go to our players and has made great saves when played.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea mate, he should have been given a chance by now imo.}

Footy BR sees all the guys in training and he must feel he is not up to it. What is clear is that BR is not messing around. He is going for it and long may it continue. He is doing a fantastic job so if he feels that he needs a new player in any position then that's fine with me. Hail Hail.

13 Aug 2016 00:18:21
Well said Johnny, I would loved to have given Ronnie my full support but I don't think I could have put up with another year of the one system play. I like what BR is doing with the team and everyone seems to be buying into it, in Brendon I trust and so must we all. Hail Hail.

13 Aug 2016 17:23:21
Maybe he will get a shot, and maybe B R wants three fit and capable goalkeepers in case he gets injury in the goalkeeping ranks.

Question to all, with BR coming in and clearly putting his stamp on the team, does anyone still think that PL and JP have any influence on the team or even transfers?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2016 20:03:35
rayman99: PL will have a big say in transfers re budget/ wages etc. The big picture will be seen or not if we qualify for the CL.
If we do then hopefully there could be major signing.

12 Aug 2016 20:32:27
I think Brendan will pass his targets on to pl and if he can do it within our budget he will if not we move on. But I think Brendans main target has been Sinclair and we signed him.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:41:22
I'm sure jp will have his own budget so to speak, signing the likes of the pj crossan. mibbe not I'm on beer 7 haha.

13 Aug 2016 01:06:43
I am not sure that your new goalkeeper couldn't win us the tie . The very fact that Gordon knows there is someone sitting on the bench who B R clearly likes as a keeper may just bring a better level of concentration to Gordon's game .
B R seems to think everything through v carefully and I certainly won't criticise him for the decisions he makes.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 18:22:15
I like most was bit underwhelmed by the goalkeeper we are after, but I am choosing to look at it as short term fix and doesn't dishearten Leo or other young keepers. Hopefully we have a star already in ranks. Maybe wishful thinking but in Brendan we trust.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2016 22:07:35
Vorm was our first choice goalkeeper target! Unfortunately Spurs were not willing to sell so de virus next choice! He obviously has something Rogers also tried to get him at Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 23:15:12
Hoping this GK isn't going to be the wildcard signing as he is likely to be back up to Gordon. Would rather the wildcard being someone capable of winning us the tie.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 23:05:17
Dishearten our keepers? Surely if they can't get a game now before Gordon then they never will?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 17:16:10
Brendan has done great in the short time he has been at paradise, managed to bring in some new players that have hit the ground running, also with the current team, they have been energised, so let's hang fire on making judgement on the new keeper until he has played a few meaningful games for the hoops.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Paisleyguy 102 mno reason to rush into making decision on our goal-keeping
B R hasn't got much wrong, in his short time with us, so let us see, Paisleyguy 102 if he is right again.

Hi Ed,

Regarding Johansen what would it take for Celtic to sell. Reading Galatasaray are going to bid £2.7m, Other reports today suggestion Fulham prepared to go as high as £4m. I don't know how much truth if any is in either. If he's definitely going to leave with only one year remaining on his contract i'd be more than happy with the £2.7m if i'm honest. I can't see anyone going higher than that. That cash can go elsewhere (Keeper) or towards any bid we make for Paddy Roberts. HH.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I have heard a wee story that Johansen might be the next to sign a new deal, or stall on making a decision about his future, as Rodgers likes his pressing energetic style and thinks it's just a question of getting his confidence back. Personally I still think he'll leave, more than likely to England if there is no interest in Germany where Hamburg and Mainz (I think it's them) are long term admirers. Playing in the Bundesliga has always been his 'dream' and he'd rather go there than England. I'd be surprised if he sees Fulham as a realistic option - the only thing going for it is it's in glitzy London and remembering his Mrs has just had a kid he'd be off his head to even consider going to Turkey.
Price wise I don't see why we shouldn't ask Fulham for £4 million, teams in that league are paying £12 million for diddies like Ross MCCormack and I'd have Johansen over him all day every day. I would have said a bid of around £2.5 -3 million would be enough to get us interested.}

12 Aug 2016 19:17:08
I do hope we keep johansen as I think he is a great player n has already shown what he can do when injury free n full of confidence. If he goes I'll trust Brendan's judgement but I'm hoping he stays.
We have a big squad, I'd like to see a few more move on, but we have enough quality 2 rotate, which I'm sure we will do if champions league football is gained. Over this season I'd like to see Ajer n Henderson get some game time, with the size of squad next season may be more realistic 2 try n nail down a starting place but this season I'd hope both get game time here and there, I say that as neither will be regulars this season, just too many players. Ed is Mackay Steven going on loan with a view to a permanent? Sorry if I've missed this. Just wonder if his confidence is shot or he maybe hasn't managed to overcome that step up. Had some good moments in a hoops jersey but like united very inconsistent. Hail hail.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 18:10:12
Thanks Ed.

Would be happy to see him sign a new contract atleast then if he hits top form again and feels he wants to move on we can atleast ask for top dollar.

At the same time would bite their hand off now for £4m.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:30:43
I like Johansen too as he is different to what we have and we can be a bit soft and lightweight in midfield - especially in Europe.
If he does see his future away from Celtic Park, I hope we use the cash to get a similar (or better) battler.

12 Aug 2016 16:27:28

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 01:15:37
Sparky, do you think you will ever have confidence in B R .
I don't know anything about this keeper, but he can't be too bad if B R wants him and in fact he could well be very good.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 04:06:23
I've seen de vries on numorus occasions n he's simply not good enough to challenge Gordon. So if u want sum1 to challenge he's not the man. He was quite rubbish at Killie! !

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 04:10:58
Do u watch much notts forest games marco? I don't. But I do know de vries is not good enough. Since when did we go for 36 year old goalies? I'd rather use f as an I'm! !

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 15:41:35
Im not sure about de fries but BR would know him well from swansea, so hope he gets the best out of him just like sinclair hasn't had the greatest couple of seasons and BR has him playing fantastic for us so far, i believe rogers knows what he's doing and i'm behind him 100% HH.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Yeah because most GK's hit their peak at 36.}

12 Aug 2016 17:06:02
Lol but BR can't sign for the sake of it, there has to be a good reason and i hope its not just to be a back up for CG, because he doesn't need a back up he needs replaced.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You want Rodgers to get the best out of De Vries, with him pushing 36 I think someone had his best many, many moons ago.}

12 Aug 2016 19:03:03
Ed i'm just trying to make sense of it lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Och just admit it, you're trying to find a positive so that you don't need to question Rodgers' thinking. :=o

12 Aug 2016 20:12:13
Whilst it would be preferable to get a youhg keeper this guy was player of the year last year. Like sinclair great at swansea. Most keepers get better and good ones play on i. e. cech. In addition he knows Scotland so should settle quickly. He will be challenging Gordon if not replacing imo. Think we need to trust BR as each player he has brought in all look great and the existing in his plans have improved already. If this is the shape we are in now think how good we will be in 3 months time. I can't remember the last time I have felt so good about the season ahead. H H.

12 Aug 2016 21:14:13
As long as he's not bringing his big brother mark wae him.

12 Aug 2016 14:48:56
Whats your take on de vries Ed?, can honestly say I've not heard much about him since he played up here, better than gordon?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I didn't know that Logan Bailly's injury was ankle ligaments so we needed a new GK in as we only have Gordon and Fasan. De Vries for me is no better than Gordon, he's another cheap option but I'm hoping he's only here to be Gordon's back up, he conceded 51 goals in 48 matches last season and only managed 12 clean sheets and at nearly 36 years of age he's not going to get any better is he?
It's ridiculous that we're scrimping and scraping on such an important position yet again.}

12 Aug 2016 15:13:43
i was optimistic that BR could have attracted a decent No 1 to replace Gordon, but this appointment has disappointed me.
Would have liked to see Fasan having a wee run, but understand it's maybe not the right time to chop and change with important games so early in the season; however, I still think Gordon is a weak link.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There wasn't one single person that didn't agree that any signings me make had to be better than what we've already got.

12 Aug 2016 15:14:37
I posted on another comment earlier that maybe BR likes the look of Fasan and thinks we'll get another season or 2 out of CG and DDV until he's ready to step in. Do you not think that's likely?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well why not make Fasan his No.2? He turns 23 in January and hasn't made a first team appearance, he's not going to go out on loan because that'll leave us short depending on how long Bailly's out for.}

12 Aug 2016 15:18:33
Ed, I can see where you're coming from but conceding goals is not always solely to do with the goalkeeper. The rest of the team have to prevent goals aswell? I trust no keeper would be as good as they can be with a team who finished 16th in the leauge.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - At other club's it's the GK's job to stop the ball going in the net, it's only at Celtic it's Efe Ambrose's fault when we concede.}

12 Aug 2016 15:25:39
My take on this signing is to gee up Gordon, he has had no competition, so hopefully De Vries will spur Gordon to perform like he did in his first season with us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Gordon hasn't got worse, Tim.}

12 Aug 2016 15:56:57
We always seem reluctant to spend on keepers. Forster and Boruc were both on loan before we decided to stump up the cash for them and that was only about 3mil combined! Its as if we don't think we need a good keeper to win domestic games and don't feel there's value in spending big money for a few european games a season.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 16:13:48
Gordon has definitely went backwards it's clear for all to see.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No, it's just more people are noticing, go back and look at his many blunders and mistakes since we signed him. Flapping about in the middle of nowhere at crosses, rebounding the ball straight back into the danger area, long shots that should be covered etc.}

12 Aug 2016 15:32:41
Jeez oh Ed, Is that you giving CG a half compliment mate not like you it is Friday after all =D

As a said to you yesterday I had a sneaky feeling he was after a keeper I also think he is going to install him as his No.1 mate (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think I might need a lie down.}

12 Aug 2016 15:38:33
That bad Ed, like i said ain't heard of the guy in yrs, With all the talk of vorm etc i feel a bit deflated with this one, pal he must be rotten if your hoping he's a back up to gordon lol, Is there a fee involved?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yes there's a fee but it's undisclosed. I've seen everything from £500k to £2 million being mentioned, I'd go with nearer the lower one for now.}

12 Aug 2016 16:45:22
Denayer and Van Dijk made Gordon look better than he was in his first season by mopping everything up that came near the box.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 16:45:48
Have to say I was happy when Gordon signed but now whether it be a cross ball or a ball to feet i'm almost waiting for disaster to strike. God only knows how the defence must feel. It's an area we need to spend decent cash on to get right.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:35:07
I thought Fasan was still a teenager Ed. my bad lol, don't see him getting much of a look-in in that case. He would surely have had a chance by now if BR or even RD thought he was going to be the main guy.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 14:48:11
Just on the possible de vries signing, can't help but think the response would have been much the same at the time celtic signed Ronnie Simpson, overwhelming feeling amongst fans it was a terrible move for the club to make, how wrong we were, I for one am prepared to adopted a wait and see I don't care if he'45 if he turns out better than Gordon, and makes less costly mistakes in high pressure games, so if he signs let's give him 100% backing and let time and performance decide if it's deserved or not.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

12 Aug 2016 14:34:17
Dorus de Vries : This guy was Forrest POTY last year . It could be that BR does not see enough competition fro CG so he's is getting in a GK that would do that.
Now I know we all wanted a really decent GK ( Vorn) to come in and steady the back 4.
At 35 it still a good age for a GK.
as a few have said so far BR has seems to know what he's doing .

It's been reported forrest wanted him to stay and the people slagging the boy off al bet have hardly seen him nobody had seen much of jonny Gould play when he signed and he did ok and al bet nobody had seen artur, we're forgetting Brendan knows him better than any of us.

Bit underwhelming to be honest! I know he was forests player of the year last year but honestly thought we'd do better than this! But I trust BR so if he fancies him then I'm willing to give him a chance! I actually thought he was injured at the moment to. which is slightly strange! Considering baily is out injured to!

At 35 years of age how is this guy going to be an improvement on Gordon. Would rather Fasan was given a chance.

Very impressed with the signings so far but not with this one.

Agree4 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 09:35:18
Seems a strange one indeed. He's 35 and even though keepers can play a bit longer than others you have to ask how long he is going to go on for. I'd have thought BR would have went for a keeper with youth on his side as well as a bit of quality. Bailly should be given a chance first, not a bad keeper and needs a run of games.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 09:53:54

The age isn't the issue - how old is Kolo? The issue is that it's a bit of an underwhelming signing because we were hoping for better. Got to give BR the chance with this one though, he obviously feels he coyld be better than Gordon.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 11:07:35
Its DeVries skill with the ball at his feet that Rodgers wants, he had him at Swansea and wants to build from the back. Regardless of what you thing of Gordon, his use of the ball at his feet is murder!

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 12:35:48
We should get a look at him against Inter. Wonder if BR will start him against hapoel beer sheva 2nd leg? I doubt BR has brought him in to make up the numbers.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 12:35:59
Jim Tim

The age is an issue because we will have 3 goalkeepers in their mid 30s. Kolo is different because the 4 other centre halves around him are all 25 and under and can learn from him.

So if Gigi Buffon was coming to Celtic you would say the same thing?

Obviously this keeper isn't even a comparision to Buffon but same scenario.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 13:24:23
There are plenty of top keepers that sort of age Niall, even if it's only until next summer when there's more funds available. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer somebody younger ideally, but if he's better than Gordon, it's a step in the right direction.

Exactly DRB. It's the player, not their age.

Agree0 Disagree0

I did say De Vries is not a comparison on Buffon, but when people are saying age is the issue, its clearly not when he has been a top goalkeeper for 15-20 years.
