Forget about loan deals and go out and buy players and build a team, spend some money that we are earning.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

11 Jan 2018 20:06:50
Exactly. Doing otherwise makes us look cheapskates. Whatever happened to strengthen when you are on top and speculate (within reason) to accumulate (trophies) ?

11 Jan 2018 20:27:00
I don't think loans are bad if it helps short term, in Europe for example, as and signings we make aren't likely to be the finished product ready to make an impact. If we can do that then of course that is the preferred option.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 20:54:26
i think it will be late window if anything. Players that have been moved down the pecking order for whatever reason. The plus side is there will be a few international players with itchy feet this window if they aren't starting.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 23:08:14
If there's an option to buy then yeah loans could help.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2018 20:45:38
How much money do you think we have . Currently rubbish footballers are moving for £10-£12m plus their wages are at least one and a half times our maximum . We don't get the T V money they get in England, so unless the fans tell the board to treble the price of season books, then we have to continue as we are, just win the odd treble , qualify for Champions League and maybe be in Europe every so often .
Terribly bad for us especially as most of our demanding fans support EPL teams and compare.

Crazy shout but if we are going to sell dembele how about taking Hernandez on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal with them paying most his wages. I'm sure he would want game time with it being a world cup year and also to get some trophies under his belt! Never happen but good deal for all parties.

Here is a wild shout, if we do sell Dembele how about selling him to west ham and taking Hernandez on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal. With them paying most of his wages. I'm sure he would be wanting game time and winning with it being a world cup year.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

11 Jan 2018 21:27:48
Not for me. Chicarito wouldn't cut it in the SPFL. I really cannot see Dembele leaving this window. and would have Leigh start over Chicarito all day long.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 21:53:26
Here's a wild shot . For God's sake change the record, why should Celtic fans keep up a steady barrage about Dembele leaving .
Are Celtic fans so short of home enjoyment and marriage rights that they get their kicks out of forecasting Dembele's departure . It's bad enough for the MSSM to write nonsense to try to upset the lad but some of our own are even worse .
As for that idiot Herandez, I wouldn't have him in Lennoxtown training with our youth.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jan 2018 02:48:41
Steady! I don't want dembele to leave any time. But it's likely he will one day. Hopefully for the best deal for him and the club. Hernandez hardly has the worst record about and has played in bigger league's than ours. He won't be coming here of course but if he did I don't think he would struggle. Keep your hat on!

Good little interview from Tierney on the Celtic site. Can't see him leaving anytime soon.

You are right Toprig but no doubt before the week is out some of our less knowledgeable supporters will have him linked with an EPL side.

Why do sites link us to players that we have no chance of signing. The latest one I've seen is Mawson from Swansea quoting 25 million to buy him. Unbelievable.

Reading something bitton said about playing PSG, said that they were playing a different sport and he was saying a prayer every time they attacked! This for me says everything about the mentality of our players going into these matches! There’s absolutely no belief that they can do something against these players! And before anybody says it I get theyr better players and worth a fortune! But I’m talking about belief going onto that park and thinking let’s show this mob that we’re not just here to roll over! Big Sutton was bang on when he said that our players stand in that tunnel and don’t believe they belong there! Watched Bristol city the other nite give it a rite good go against Man City and thought why can’t we do the same against these richer clubs! To many star struck Wee bhoys in our team IMO!

Believable8 Unbelievable2

11 Jan 2018 12:45:13
Amiens only lost 0-2 at home to PSG and they had 10 men for an hour. We are better than them yet with 11 v 11 we get battered at home to them.

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Jan 2018 12:54:20
Sadly LH86 I don't feel we will ever be able to compete with the likes of PSG. Playing in a mediocre league that we play in and the finances available to us it's merely an achievement just qualifying for the group stages! The money we have made from the group stages and player transfers over the last few years really means nothing in terms of helping us compete in Europe because the quality of player we need to allow us to compete won't come to our league. I hear a lot of Celtic fans and fans of other clubs saying " why are Celtic not spending big on players with all the cash they have made? " Celtic are spending money but its is very difficult to try and convince e. g an £8m rated player to come to what is effectively a one horse poor league. All it does in terms of the money we have made is keep us dominant domestically. That's the sad reality im afraid.

Agree2 Disagree3

11 Jan 2018 13:10:22
That just proves that bitton dorsnt have the mental attributes to play for celtic at the top level. We shoupd have got shot of him years ago anyways.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 13:27:31
LH86 is absolutely right, while we can't "compete" in the sense of challenging to win the CL, we can perform better and snatch the odd result.

Right now since Deila era (we are still using most of his squad) they always folded when the pressure was on. Bottled in finals and semis, bottled in qualifiers etc

We have a team with some talent, but mentally when the pressure is on many of them go into hiding.

That's why we need to invest in new players for most positions, to bring in a new mentality.

different era but when Lisbon Lions came up against these great favourites they didn't just sit back and go, oh they are better let's hope we don't get hammered. They said let's get into them!

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 13:35:23
Malky my point isn’t ablut money mate. none of us on here are under any illusions about the money they can spend compared to us. its the hunger and belief I’m talking about! Bravetart86 has gave an example of a game there and there’s plenty more this season across Europe! For me it’s a total lack of belief through the whole squad! I’m not for one minute saying we should be competing with PSG or Bayern to qualify, but that statement from bitton tells me that these players think they don’t belong in that company! Theyr spanked before they even get on the field!

Agree2 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 14:04:12
McGregor said similar. " we have to respect psg " before a game? No say it after the game once earned . Until psg spent silly money on neymar and the mbappe loan? No one rated them as a European giant . Until they actually win it? They are no more than a normal team throwing money at wining it . We didn't fear man city who year on year throw similar or more money at it . Wish people would stop hailing this psg team till they win something of note .

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 14:39:47
The players had the hunger and belief to spank Anderlecht on their own turf, the players had the hunger and belief to give a good account of themselves against Bayern at Celtic Park but ultimately lost narrowly because quality told in the end. were people only expecting to concede 4 against PSG and 6 against Barca? We could have all the hunger and belief in the world but with the quality of player we currently have at our disposal we will continue to lose heavily to the PSG's and Barca's of this world! Biton doesn't belong in that company. Just being realistic.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jan 2018 15:54:00
Can’t agree mate! Like I said there’s plenty of examples of teams with far less budgets and inferior players getting a result against top teams! It can be done, but those 11 players who go out on the pitch all have to believe that! To me bittons words while maybe not speaking for the whole squad, it tells me that that we don’t have enough strong characters In that team! U even watch a game In the spl without brown and some of them look like rabbits caught In the headlights! But it’s all about opinions and we all have different ones sometimes lol.

I don’t think we’ll need to wait too long for that DelBhoy. Although you’re perhaps being a bit ignorant considering they’ve won the CWC in the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 17:17:36
Good post, and excellent thread. For me, Biton gets a bye here, as a central midfielder playing centre-half. Too right I'd be saying a prayer I don't get found wanting.

But for the general spirit and attitude this does sum us up in key games. No faith in each other to get the jobs done. In part this is because of the recent history in crunch games when we've folded so happily, as has been pointed out. But maybe--by the same logic--they are only one key result away from changing the context? Brendan seems to talk about something like this.

I don't think spending cash on a few hotshots can really change the mentality of the team in the way that's required, but we do need to spend the money for other reasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 17:45:19
Unfortunately we seem to have too many like Bitton who are full of fear and far too ready to accept defeat before a ball is kicked.
Not so long ago we had WGS and NL teams qualify for the last 16 and beat some very formidable opponents full of world class players.
The attitude, confidence and belief must be generated from the manager down and BR strikes me as a positive guy, so why the panic sets in once they go onto the pitch baffles me.
Maybe they should take a leaf out of the 'Lions' book and belt out The Celtic Song in the tunnel before each game?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 18:05:29
We will never be able to compete with the super clubs but at least not get embarrassed by them. Amiens are a small club that probably doesn't have the money we have but can still keep a result respectful even down to 10 men last night. I think that in itself would be progress in Europe. And finishing 3rd and a run in the EL is a good achievement. We may get lucky and get a real easy group when qualifying one time and possibly pinch 2nd but were likely to come up against one of these super clubs in the last 16. Although financially that is good for the club but a 12-0 aggregate loss against PSG is embarrassing no matter how good they are.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 18:14:58
To be fair to Brendan Rodgers team, they've had to to deal with firstly Barcelona and Man City in a group and then PSG and Bayern in a group.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2018 22:03:13
If big Sutton had motivated Lincoln to match the poor teams that beat them when he was manager . and if big Sutton hadnt froze and lost his nerve at Ibrox and left nine team mates to play against the cheats, I would have some respect for his comments.
