I read that Rodgers was thinking of giving young Hendry a game on Thursday after Simonovic's poor display, but that would mean two very inexperienced defenders in him and Ajer.
My thoughts are he cannot do any worse than some of our defenders in the past in european games.
Boyata, Simonovic, Schiavencko and Lustig have all made howlers in various games.
But Rodgers and our defensive coach Kennedy must also shoulder the blame for our poor defensive record in europe.
Rodgers must be brave on Thursday and attack from the first whistle, if we lose two goals then score 3 lol.

I don’t remember Sviatchenko doing anywhere near enough wrong to be lumped in with Jozo and Boyata.

Timalloy couldn’t agree more about going at them from the start.
Look at the last Hearts game, we went for it and everyone on here was raving about it. Go with that Team against Zenit. Obviously Boyata is injured, so it’s between Jozo and Hendry to fill the gap.
There is no point in sitting back, best form of defence is attack.

I don't understand why Eric is considered shining bright and worse than what we have available at centre half? But then again I don't have a suntan or sparkling white teeth so it's not my problem to sort it out and not what I'm paid for! ☘️.

11 Feb 2018 22:13:17
Eric is too slow and the worst choice out of all available centre backd.

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Feb 2018 22:28:17
Slow agreed-the worst of our centre halfs? Bawz.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Feb 2018 22:59:05
Can’t agree Erik is worse than boyata or Jozo! Like someone else commented on, Erik hasn’t made anywhere near the amount of howlers that those 2 have! He lost his way a bit under Brendan but on his day I would have him over any of those 2!

11 Feb 2018 22:47:58
Kennedy has nothing to do with the defensive side of things although many folks do.

11 Feb 2018 23:06:31
Erik is far to slow for the system the gaffer likes to play.
Our full back push way up the field and our centre backs need to have pace. Erik looks like he's towing a caravan when he runs.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Feb 2018 07:48:37
The system we’re playing this season is as slow as a week in the jail, wee passes among the back 4 and then opposition press and we lump the ball or loose it.

Who among us will be relieved that Hendry will come in against Zenit? Not many I would gamble and Theron lies the problem. We have had a poor defence for years and our great hope is a young guy from Dundee who looked no better than what we had. Progress my arse. Shambles more like it. How many windows will Rogers need to show him what every other living being knows, he needs to buy good defenders who aren’t projects.

We need whoever comes in needs to play to their absolute best and even then it’s a tough one. Play like they have recently, Kilmarnock should have scored 3 and Thistle did the same. Of teams of that calibration fibd our defence a farce what will a good team do?

Apart from KT every other defender is on the star rating 4 mark for weeks. Against spfl teams.

Utterly farcical we are only thinking about bringing in a newly signed Centre back. Not even a shoe in, with our defence and he isn’t considered a guaranteed start says it all about the quality and wisdom of seeing him as the answer we need now. Beyond belief we are in this position, then I remember it’s Celtic and it all falls into place as our same old story of stalling every time we look like disappearing over the hill.

I can’t see us going through but if we play well we could get a point at home or better if Moussa and Sincy turn up.

There is a lot of talk about our dodgy defence just now and while I agree that individuals are making too many silly mistakes, I don't see this as the only factor.

I know some may not like this or agree with me but I think Rodgers needs to shoulder some of the responsibility for the way he sets the team up and the style he wants to play. By playing out from the back; especially using players with limited technical ability, you are likely to make mistakes. Not only that if you misplace a pass whilst the team are bombing forward, you leave yourself exposed at the back.

If you cast your minds back to when Liverpool nearly won the league under Rodgers, Liverpool players were making the same mistakes and shipping a ridiculously high amount of goals for the exact same reasons.

Personally, I don't see it as a big problem in the SPL because on the most part teams fail to capitalise on account of their inferior players. However, in Europe I do think it is an issue Rodgers should address because you will more often than not get punished for the errors. In my opinion, this is why we have taken a few humpings in the CL.

We play to far apart. Passes between the back four plus two dropping midfielders can be up to twenty yards or more, add a couple of touches and teams are set up again. Our game needs to be condensed more to open teams up and use our pace.

there is a brilliant clip going around of Villareal passing out of a tight press at the halfway line, brilliant one touch and into the opposing box. Anderlecht was a warning for me.

Jhedi that’s one thing I’ve always wondered

Many clubs with smaller budgets play fantastic football even in Europe against the better teams.

Celtic though rarely do. How can we not have a Moravcik type player? Is our scouting network doing their jobs right? I know it’s early but for me Musonda looks like a McGeady - nice feet with limited end product.

Calvin Miller was meant to be our next promising attacking player? How can this lad not get his chance to shine?

11 Feb 2018 20:28:18
I don’t think many teams in Europe (especially the champions league) have a smaller budget than us to be honest.

Zenit up next and there are a lot of worried Celtic fans. Personally I see it as a 50-50. Positives are that in the first 10 minutes yesterday we showed that if we start well we can rip teams apart with our attacking play and their league record of 37 points from 20 games isn't the best. The big negative is obviously our defence and specifically their insistence on committing unforced errors when we are otherwise comfortably on top in games.

All I am looking for now from zenith is hopefully to start finding a bit of form.
We have a massive game at Aberdeen in a fee weeks. hopefully a pick up in form and a few injuries back in the next week or two will see us increase or advantage at the top of the table.
Has anyone got an update on the injuries.
In Dubai commper was ment to be out for 4 weeks he must be nearly ready.
Griff was ment to be up to 4 weeks. rogic on the bench yesterday.
I would like to see Bain maybe get a start on Thursday or even weekend. DDV is not the answer.

I can see BR playing McGregor on Thursday as he is one of our best players at keeping the ball and Musonda is still getting up to speed. Maybe bring Musonda and Rogic on later to go at a tiring defence?

11 Feb 2018 15:39:30
I see it slightly different as I think we are big underdogs against Zenit and will be surprised if we progress. That being said, never say never and I hope I am proven wrong.

RAW agree with u. i’ll be Surprised if we progress against zenit! Our defence is struggling against poor SPL teams so against a quality outfit I don’t hold out hope! Hope I’m way off and we get a result but the way we’re playing rite now just can’t see it!

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Feb 2018 19:43:54
We’ve conceded 18 league goals all season, 4 of which came in the loss to Hearts. Not exactly struggling.

Kev our defence is woeful mate! Simonovic boyata are both equally as bad! Any team that has a go against us will get joy against them, it’s as simple as that! If one doesn’t make a howler then the other will oblige!

As much as I detest Levein, I would like BR to be more outspoken at times, fighting our corner.
I appreciate most of the huge injury list we have are not down to bad fouls, but every week there is a vendetta against Kieran Tierney in particular by almost every opponent and it is very fortunate he has not been crocked.
Referees are turning too many blind eyes and letting 'assaults' go unpunished against several of our players, while all the media focus on, is the behavior and conduct of our own captain, Scott Brown while others seem to carry a 'free-pass' for repeated foul play
and what about a strong statement and stance - banning that Sevco Scribble the DR from our ground indefinitely while we're at it.

Did you see what there keeper did to dembele yesterday fly kicked him after he had won the ball uncontested had that been the other way round straight red and no questions asked.

Brendan has spoken out publicly about some of the abuse Kieran gets especially the boy from Motherwells assault on him he's also had a go at some of the pitches and he just bit back at the clown Levien the other day.

Again. How many games have we been in control of till a stupid mistake let's an opponent in and we then go to bits? Strolling it yesterday till Sumo, seriously what was he thinking?, committed the cardinal sin of defending. don't PASS BLIND TO YOUR KEEPER! , it's primary school stuff.

I posted yesterday i thought it might be a bit sticky, after watching Thistle midweek i feared it, but jeeze we have to shape up defensively. After we scored the second we had them till the mistake.

It seems to me teams know that if you keep the game alive, and concentrate to the nth degree, we will GIVE them a chance. They don't create said chance, WE WILL GIVE IT TO THEM. That's the frustrating thing for me. They score, our last line panic and we suddenly look as if the players met in the pub an hour before.

For me this is happening far to often. and i find it quite disturbing given the upcoming games.
