Evening ed and all. I've heard a lot of crap over the years as a celtic fan. Pavlyuchenko Keane fletcher snodgrass McFadden at his peak. The list goes on. All these guys were never going to come to celtic when they can earn silly money in the epl and why should they its a short career. Now it seems that the rumours can't even produce names its mystery players. Now I'm not saying that the board should confirm or deny every rumour but it just seems convenient that around season ticket or cl qualify or 3 match package time these rumours seem to surface. I know the media have to sell papers and it has calmed down a bit in recent years because they've had the govan circus to keep them busy all summer. But I still feel the rumour market is mightily convenient for the board every summer. They will float the cash cow at the agm and let the papers go to work in the summer. Buy your strips your season books because the big names are coming then come deadline day it's a last min loan deal. Do my fellow supporters think there should be some level of communication between board and supporters.

GB, I get your point totally, however this issue is that the Board will never tell you what players they are looking at. If we are looking at a player then so is another team, thus a price war and the asking price goes up.
Now as you say its get your season tickets and buy this and that from the club, but as always when it comes to transfer time , how many times do we get the Big name player we want.
The criteria is a minefield.
Does the player want to come?
How much do we want to pay?
Do we pay more than we want to get him?
Can we meet his wage demands or break our wage structure for 1 big name player, thus upsetting the rest of the players.
As I have said before all we are asking is for the club to make that acquisition we are looking for.
We have the money to spend but the club is always looking to get the cheap option so they can make the profit, however in doing so they disappoint.
We live in hope.

There is a very fine line between making a profit and making a loss. The board have backed Deila exceptionally well , with the improved back room personnel and equipment , as well as not going on the preseason money making jaunts . We have got players in early and let's wait and see who we get in when we have qualified for the Champions League.

Hello everyone I believe we are all hypocrites. We want 15 - 20 milion for VVD but only want to pay 3 million for his replacement. However this player is very similar in his playing profile as VVD some could say of a better standard.
Belgium is a better quality league to ours
Bruges has an equal recent record in Europe to us
Both are of a similar age and international experience
Belgium has a higher international standing than either the Netherlands and Scotland.

11 Aug 2015 21:27:48
Jonace I totally agree. I don't think that VVD is worth £12 million. No point saying he is as good as Stone he dies not have the experiance of playing against quality week in and week out for a start? We won't get more than £12 mill tops for VVD . He is not going to go to a top 4 club and the likes of Stoke have just spent £12 mill which is a club record. Everton may chuck money at him if they sell Stone but apart from them no mid to bottom table team are paying £15 to £20 mill for VVD.

12 Aug 2015 09:54:46
It goes back to my point that you don't really pay what a player is worth, you pay what his club can't afford to turn down. That's why Chelsea will pay £30m for Stones, because Everton make so much from TV that they can knock back £10-20m. Celtic, on the other hand, play in a league with virtually no finances, so £10m to us is a far more appealing than to any EPL team as it would make a bigger difference to our books. I don't know Brugge's financial situation but if they can afford to hold out for a higher price they will. If not they'll sell at the £3m that's being bandied around.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2015 09:56:42
I would be surprised if we get more than 10m. Really untried at the highest level, and still needing some work to be honest,i think we will get 8m plus add ons.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2015 19:14:36
It is obsolutely a total waste of all our resources at Celtic Park and Lennoxtown if we pay out as much for Virgil's replacement as we get for Virgil . Our transfer policy , like many other clubs in less prestige leagues , is to buy young raw cheap players , improve them and sell them on with £5,m and more profit .

I thought Deila said yesterday , there was nothing to the transfer from Brugges .

I am not holding any big hope for a big name striker if we qualify for CL.

If previous years are anything to go by:

2013 Pukki 2 million

2012 Miku Free/Loan

Can see a loan signing from an unknown punt on a striker.

Aye I think we all know this., I am sure the scouts, manager and Lawwell are all trying but those we want don't seem to want to come to Scotland . We have been lucky with the Young I experience players we signed for other positions but only Griffiths and maybe Clifti are doing the job up front .
Maybe we should seek other players with Scottish links .

See Bristol City have bid 6 million for a crystal palace player! A team who were in league 1 last year! Totally scunnered when I hear of small clubs like that spending money on a striker, while we shop in the bargain basement!

That's the way it has gone . English league not only the EPL and the championship can outspend us with ease .

12 Aug 2015 09:59:21
We really have to get rid of this constant comparisons to English clubs. We are massively bigger of course but the wealth down there is unattainable here.

Bristol City just had a 6m bid accepted for Gayle of crystal palace! Bristol Fing City can spen 6m I'm embarrassed that a team at a that level can out spend our club with one transfer! At the the end of the day we are owned by billionaires or a billionaire and other very rich men! it's about time somebody invested more!

Ed: I heard on the radio that the Barcelona B team got relegated to Div 3 .
As such they are letting a lot of the team go on loan or selling them. Now surely we must have a finger in that pie ( so to speak).

It's not long ago since Celtic could beat Barcelon's first team .😋😀

My football bets tonight are in the Super Cup. Barcelona - Seville.
BTTS, Messi or Suarez to score in 90 minutes, over 2.5 goals and a penalty in the game.

Hi Ed. How you keeping?Having posted in awhile but been keeping an eye on the page. Team have started well. Do you think will we sign another striker? I've heard the crazy rumours about the 6 million pound striker haha never will happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hey BIM, it's nice to hear from you mate, I'm doing fine thanks. I've said all along that I expect Scepovic to shipped out and another striker to come in but I don't think anyone really believes the talk about £6+ million being the price.}

11 Aug 2015 10:38:23
It's obvious we cannot compete financially (or Geographically) with the top leagues in Europe, when it comes to attracting players.
However, we have done well in the past, with Scandinavian, Dutch, Israeli, Belgian and Polish teams in getting half decent players.
There is also the South American and Asian markets where we have had mixed success in the past; so where are our scouts actually looking - or are they all based in effin Dundee!?
Just asking.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

11 Aug 2015 14:14:17
Our success in South America has been rather limited as has our success in Asia .
We have signed three players from Dundee but that doesn't mean that our scouts have spent all day heir time in Dundee .
It doesn't really matter where we sign our players from , it's more important that we sign players who are affordable and are capable of doing the job the manager wants .

11 Aug 2015 16:20:42
For every Naka or Ki there's a Du Wei or Mizuno. It's the same across the board. When you shop in the bargain store, sometimes you get a bargain, often though you get sh!te that doesn't work.

Can't really think of anybody signed from South America though since Scheidt. I don't know the ins and outs of how it works with visas etc exactly but South America has done a hell of a lot for clubs like Shakhtar in particular. Not sure I buy into the South American players don't suit us thing entirely, if the right eligible players came along, surely we can afford for them to go missing in SPFL games for the sake of what they could bring in Europe.

I still see deals by clubs from 'smaller' nations in the CL that I'm envious of. Boetius to Basel for £2.5m the other day for example. Affordable, Basel have to qualify for CL too, and as a club surely we're still a bigger attraction. Call me an armchair scout bit it pisses me off.

There's time yet, and I thought it may depend on us qualifying for CL proper but, if we do, I really do want to see us sign some players of note because otherwise we really have to question where our money is going. Clutching at straws?

Am I the only one who doesn't get the fuss over this odegarrd boy? Yeh he's a talent no doubt, but reading sum of the comments he comes out with makes me think his ego is bigger than his talent! Let's not forget this boy is only 16! He's done nothing yet.but the money getting threw at him is shocking! Now he's saying he doesn't like playin for Madrids b team because the pitches they play on aren't very good! Dear oh dear! Well that definetly rules him comin to Scotland if that's what he thinks!! Imagine him at fir park on a cold December night haha!

Great players are not all about ability and talent.
Attitude, dedication and lots of hard work separate the men from the boys. Many of the young 'stars' get it far too easy and fail to respect and appreciate how lucky they are.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 10:46:24
The quotes attributed to the boy,if true,do make him out to be a bit of a princess! Seems he is on anything between 40k-60k per week. at SIXTEEN! Since Islam and his antics you can see the games going mad.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 11:51:32
If he is that shit hot and on upwards of 40k a week, then why is he only in the B team? Age should never be a barrier if your good enough. Far too many who seem to be achieving legend status before they actually do anything.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 14:07:15
Actually bhoys he is on EIGHTY!k a week on a 5 year deal and they gave his dad an ex player a COACHING position to sweeting the deal to get him

A watched him play against Sweden and it was clear he was only 16 could not cope or handle the big CH tackles he would get pummelled here IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 14:17:48
I am not too worried that it looks we are not getting him on loan . It's more important for Deila to work with the youngsters we have who are talented and seem to have their mind in the right place

Im not going to defend the kid in any other way than that iknow. I know his mom pretty good, and he is not a typical primadonna in any way. think most of the comments made, is just papers wanna sell papers and it would change what I know about him, cause I know him as a kid with all intentions of making it.
He is on a big contract, one of the best payed 16 year old ever in football, but this is mostly because of Perez desperation in not securing the "next Neymar", and Zidane comming to Drammen to secure his signature being the drop that made his decission.
As I said, not going to defend the kid, but don't think he is the reason why he is seen as a primadonna!
