Biton getting a bit of a reputation for these piledrivers some goal against cyprus

Great player and superb talent, hope he's here for many more years to come enjoy watching him in the hoops. It's great to see a player with some actual composure on the ball in Europe as well which Bitton provides for us.

Getting concerned though about the lack of recent talks about him signing a new extended contract, it all seems to have gone quiet on that front which tells me he must not be interested in a new contract as I can't see us as having not offered him a new contract with him being our biggest current asset. Don't know if you know Ed how that's progressing?

Although I'd like to see the guy here for many more years to come, we're running the serious risk of losing him for relative buttons as he now has less than two years left on his contract which is a poor situation for the club to have got themselves into as he's arguably our current biggest asset and best player, impressing in both Europe for us and with his national side which is where teams outside the country will take notice of his ability.

I fear his best buds whilst here Virgil and Guidetti maybe talked him into getting himself out of our league like they have done themselves and I'm sure Johansen may have that influence as well as he was in that group also but he can go as far as I'm concerned he's been very poor this season and I'm not buying this injuries have hampered him his general demeanour has been shocking along with his body language during games.

Obviously we only heard that he and Celtic opened talks re new contract , I would imagine that we won't hear more until they are completed or run into difficulties and it takes time . I wouldn't worry for a while yet .

Think if we needed proof just how little the SPL is regarded it's tonite with VVD starting for Holland! Barely half a dozen games in England and he's now a starter for them! CL EL games for us and not a sniff! Says it all really! And another point on his comments during the week.not surprised in the slightest he's came out with that! It's the done thing as soon as u cross the border Uve got to put the boot into our league! Even the Scottish players do it! They feel as if it's the thing to say to fit in with the rest of the English who tear into our league! Even the so called pundits do it on sly!! Nicholas McQueen being 2 of the worse! He's not the 1st and he won't be the last believe me! As soon as they set foot on English soil it's like Scotland doesn't exist anymore! Let them get on with it! There opinions or existence means f**k all to me!

It is an under strength team against the group whipping boys. It would be like Mulgrew and Forrest getting a game for Scotland. Wait a minute! :)

When did you get appointed coach of Holland. Must have missed that?

10 Oct 2015 19:11:55
DH you might be correct? It is a crap league. If you offered Celtic a drop into the English Championship they would bite your hand off. So it's not only players that want to leave the SPL, it's clubs. What does that tell us? So don't blame pundits for telling everyone how it is. Ask PL if he wants to move to England! Replies on back of a postage stamp please.

He should remember that Southampton only signed him because he was a good player, where did he become a good player?
I don't recall Southampton trying to sign him when he was a youngster, so he should remember who gave him his opportunity.
As you say Dh88, it's a pity that Scottish pundits don't stick up a bit more for the game up here, or if they won't, at least point to the mediocrity of the EPL.
I suppose they wouldn't get a job with Sky if they were to do that.

10 Oct 2015 21:47:09
Gerryyc the EPL is so mediocre in your opinion that it has a contract for around Β£1.2 bill over the next 3 years? How can you defend the SPL when Desmond and Peter are so trying to find any way they can to get out of the SPL and into the mediocrity of a Β£75 million pay cheque. How does the mediocrity of the EPL have anything to do with the SPL? let's all stop thinking that unless we say great things about Celtic we are not supporters! If we got half a chance we would be right into that mediocre league in a heartbeat.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Oct 2015 22:26:13
As for his comments ,how can you argue against them,as a defender is he going to learn more playing against Hamiltons forwards or Chelsea's,no disrespect to Hamilton Academicals.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Oct 2015 22:26:35
Johnnymac, I said it was a mediocre league, and it is. Because Sky are daft enough to put all that money into it doesn't alter that fact.
Last season, for all the money that has been ploughed into it, they never had a club beyond the quarter finals of the Champions league or the Europa league, what does that say about the quality.
I never said anything about the standard of the Scottish league, everyone knows it's poor, but it's impossible to compare leagues when the difference in money is so vast.
Lawwell and Desmond want to move there solely for financial reasons, if they wanted to move for the quality of the football, then they'd probably be looking to move to Spain or Germany.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Oct 2015 22:26:52
The epl is overrated , so much money spent between most teams makes it a league unlike most in Europe maybe 4 or 5 could win it . No stand out team though. Pointless question but if Celtic were in it under current regime how do you think we would spend?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2015 09:07:22
Look at all of the leagues in Europe. Look at Spain. In real terms there is maybe 3 teams that could win it but probably Barca or Madrid. Germany and Italy the same so most of the top leagues only have 3 contenders at best! The EPL is getting too much money but that's how it is. Whether it's right or wrong it is the most watched league in the world. That's the basis of getting the cash. It is the main income generator for sky so it's like anything else it gets the cash. same with players. More exposure, greater value. So it might be overrated but everyone wants to be there and so do we. PL or DD wouldn't care about if football was better in Spain or Getmany, they like players want the income stream.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2015 09:28:21
Just to those that are saying the BPL is overrated, who by? The advertising companies such as Sly?

The way I see it is it's a pretty darn good league. My personal favourite in terms of entertainment has been the Bundesliga for the best part of a decade. Technically La Liga is the best. But the BPL come third. It's not as overrated as a lot of folk make out.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2015 11:48:50
I think in comparison to the money that has been ploughed into the EPL, it is very mediocre.
If you think of the better quality in Spain and Germany, what would the football in these countries be like if they had access to the same money that the EPL gets.
You get can get entertaining matches in any league, if you watched matches in the Highland League you would see some exciting matches, it doesn't mean the quality is that high.
Sky hype these matches up to a ridiculous extent, their commentators never admit that they are watching a poor game, instead they use phrases like, it's a slow burner, or, it's an intriguing tactical battle.
If people hear a thing often enough they will start to believe it, but if you watch a lot of these matches without commentators hyping them up, you'd probably see that the quality a lot of the time is pretty average.

11 Oct 2015 15:34:25
Jim Jim the EPL is the best marketed league in the world . Despite played in various types of inclement weather conditions by players many of whom play using more sweat and brawn than actual skill. Compared to the collective skill of the Spanish and German Leagues the EPL is more over funded and under skilled , but money talks to most .

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2015 17:51:04
Well yeah overpriced may be more accurate, when compared to Spain or Germany. Ofcourse broadcasters and pundits that work for such organisations are going to overrate their product. Carlsberg overrate their lager. Any bitterness from me is more to do with the circus running Scotland's game. We're suffering from not marketing it enough before the boom with technology making a league a global product. Next door to Engerlund with such a smaller population we were always going to be some sort of 'satellite league'. But we could have been a lot more appealling.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2015 19:22:44
I think someone said a while back that Scottish football should get Barry Hearne or his son to try and promote the game in Scotland. I think this is a great idea, but I doubt Regan and Doncaster have the sense to even think of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Oct 2015 12:27:38
Think we'd need Vince McMahon gerry! For me it has to start with the fans in the stadium. If we can't get people round the corner watching games it isn't going to look attractive to those in the far east or wherever. We need to start at home.

It's great to see the bhoys filling two stands at away grounds. But dor me there's also a lining of embarrassment that too many clubs don't get enough through the gates.

Now I have a season book and don't get to all the games through travel/work/other commitments but give my ticket away, or swap it for a few pints. But when clubs aren't selling tickets, more needs to be done for kids or charities etc. I used to recieve free basketball tickets through school, and you know what, I still go now.

In such a small country when the vast majority of footy fans support one of two clubs, the smaller clubs don't have much chance. But all clubs need to promote heir own product to local communities and build up an attraction from the bottom.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Oct 2015 13:50:05
Jim Tim, I think a lot of the clubs didn't use the opportunity of sevco not being around to promote themselves, and try to get more fans to their grounds.
Aberdeen look to be the only club who have sorted themselves out and used sevco's absence as an opportunity to fill the gap. Their gates are up and they have established themselves as the second best team in Scotland. Maybe Hearts is another example.
It looks to me as if all the other clubs are just biding their time till sevco get promoted, then they will rely on four big crowds a season to keep them afloat.
I think you are right that clubs need to do more than this to attract the crowds.

The Scottish game cannot go forward or prosper , nobody from the people who actually run our game , the local media , the clubs , players or even the fans have anything positive to say about our football. Our clubs act as feeder clubs for young players preparing them for English football. Even fans of individual clubs talk up their young players as ready for the off .
From top to bottom we have to find some way selling the attractiveness of our game . Everyone needs to take ownership of new initiatives aimed to bring the club forward from the local park pitches to our professional leagues .

Last in a race of 33 horses. Stick to the fitba tips lol.

Glad I only did 25p each way lol.

At least my football bets doing better.

Done a treble and 3 doubles on: Peterbrough to beat Swindon (Peterbrough winning with 10 mins to go), both teams to score Oldham v Scunthorpe (win) & Carlisle v Morecombe (win).

Have also just placed a bet on Swindon to draw (5/1) and Swindon to win (80/1), I am now guaranteed a good return no matter how Swindon v Peterbrough finishes as I placed the bet with 10 mins to go.

Ha ha Sack the Board thought you would turn up when a tip of mine's falls, nothing heard at other times, but I am used to it from you.
JohhnyMac yes not all bets will win (especially my horse bets lol) but as long as I win more than I lose then that is OK.
STB I know you won't believe me, but I have paid for a holiday, paid some bills and put money by for family gifts at Christmas and still have spare cash in my account to bet with lol (admittedely most from football bets )
