For a club like Celtic playing in the SPL some OK players could turn out to be excellent signings . An ok player who comes in and works his gut out at training and tries to do everything his manager asks of him could do very well for us . It doesn't matter what a player was like before signing, it's more important to see what he becomes at the club .

10 Jun 2016 22:03:31
I think brendan rodgers is doing it the right way check fhe players we have take your time and buy for the right reasons don't get a player for the sake of his name if there is just as good here or better . I think only 2 or 3 player will be in as we have a good sqaid already .

I'm happy at the moment, to continue getting shot of the 'surplus' and misfits as this has been long overdue.
The amount of inadequate and ineffective players we have signed (and kept) over the last few years has been criminal and hopefully BR will review/ improve our signing strategy?
I know it's an old cliche that managers are always looking for three new players - but if we clear the decks and add a few quality additions in key positions, we should be OK.
WGS and NL had limited funds, but still managed to attract some real quality from around the globe and there's no reason why the new manager can't do the same or better?

I was just going to post gourid is a diddy and I can't belive he starts for France then he scores. he does have a good record recently. My mate who is a big gunners fan can't stand him. Bit of a dull opener I expected France to be better.

Got to agree mate it wasnt the best game. Payet is a class act tho, that was a goal worthy of a final. His skill throughout the game was the difference.

Payet is some player . Last player we had like him was nakamura. Before that Lubo . Badly what we've been missing for years . Someone who can light a game up and win you 3 points even when your playing bad . I know players like payet are out of our range but an irrelevant question, ed do you know what kind of money nakamura was on . How did we manage to keep him . Always has me stumped that one.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - If I remember right Nakamura wasn't on a high wage but it was topped up a fair wedge by image rights and good incentives/bonuses.}

Alright Bhoys,
Just new to the site and wanted to see if anyone was on the same wavelength as i seen the boy matt taylors name pop up again, i haven't seen much of him but surely if BR wants to make an impact in Europe we have got to be looking a bit better quality than league 1?

Many a dandelion grows on a dungheap.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 22:01:52
We do. Although he looks a crackin wee player, a lot of it will probably be down to the level he's at. For all the goals he scored this season, even LG has a huge question mark over his head as to whether he can cut it at CL level. The club need to realise what a fortunate position we're in with regards to getting a crack at Europe, but not to rest on our laurels. Hoe many clubs chasing European football in other leagues would be after your Taylors and Griggs.

Aindoh i see what you're saying but i just think the cheap options have been preferred for far too long and we've seen how far that has got us.

11 Jun 2016 09:18:09
I really believe the board and big dermot will splash the cash as they now have a manager that is capable of getting us into the champions league with some funding.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jun 2016 10:28:56
All I meant was that there are many a good young talented player that is missed just because he is playing in an inferior league and a less talented player who is playing for a bigger team who somebody was silly enough to pay silly money for once upon a time is preferred just because of his association with a "bigger" team.

Ed? How much of a possibility is it that we sign kolo toure? I know he's mid-30s but I'm sure he's still got a bit of pace and must be much better than boyata.

As well as Sunderland releasing the fletcher and graham, just noticed wes brown was also released.

Graham and fletcher do nothing for me, but with Jozo still out, I reckon wes brown could do a job for us.

Ed007, Stan, difficult times for you both recently. I'm sure I speak for all on here when I say we are all right with you. Take care, stay strong.

Cheers troops.

This is probably one for you Ed. Have you heard anything about Jozo's fitness status? He obviously didn't get near the Croatia squad so hopefully he'll get fully fit for the start of the season. Was he particularly injury prone when he was at Zagreb?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - He picked up a knee injury a couple of years back but Celtic had it looked at by a top Harley Street specialist who said he had no concerns about it. After the St Johnstone match in January it was discovered he had been playing with broken bone in his other knee, he was passed fit to resume light training in March but complained that he was still feeling pain and surgery was decided as the best option.
Simunovic made 18 appearances for us last season and was unlucky to pick up an injury that went unnoticed for so long which probably didn't help with his recovery, I do think it's far too early to label him the new Boeriggter as I've seen some fans do, he's only 21 and has plenty of time to get things back on track.}

Not Celtic related but would just like to ask everyone to have my father in the prayers today. Got the dreaded news this morning that he has cancer so would appreciate as much help as possible. We all have hero's, people we look up to and learn from. Mine has always been Tommy Burns and Paul McStay. I probably haven't told him but my father stands shoulder to shoulder with them.

Ed i love the site and like to contribute as much as i can but will probably take a time out for a bit. I'll keep in touch via email with regards to Glasvegas and update you when i hear anything.

To all the posters whether i agree with you or not it's different opinions that make this site so good so keep up the good work. We stand together when it matters.

Have a great summer and take care. Hail Hail.

{Ed007's Note - That's awful news, Stan. I'm really sorry to hear that and I know exactly how you're feeling mate. Don't be worrying about the Glasvegas stuff you've got enough on your plate and if you ever need someone to talk to you've got my e-mail address. I'll keep your family in my prayers mate, try and stay strong for your dad's sake and here's a wee bit of advice from experience, tell him how you feel - it will help build a wonderful and beautiful bond between you and him in the upcoming battle. God bless you all mate.}

Rights bhoys, what formation do you think we will see BR adopt next season?

Dont know what he played at swansea and liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

10 Jun 2016 08:03:49
I'd be surprised if he uses one specific formation, but most likely a front 3 which seems to be the way most teams are going. Like most fans I'm not fussed as long as we're winning and it's decent to watch. A good manager will have a Plan B and be able to change things depending on the opposition or the situation. That was Ronny's major downfall, far too rigid.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 08:20:40
he played a few formations dn, 433 3412 4231, i'd love a 3412,

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 09:09:05
I think he'll play a 4-3-3/ 4-2-3-1. Roberts is the key man so he'll play a formation which gets the best out of him.

Ed

Do you know St. Henrik well enough to have a word with Ibrahimovic on our behalf? Talk him into finishing his career with a football club rather than a corporation? Not as if he needs the cash. Would have been a no brainer for me had I been good enough to play for either the world famous Glasgow Celtic or slum it with Man. Utd. Then again, I suppose Ibrahimovic wasn't brought up in Aridre.

According to Scott Brown articles on celticnewsnow, after discussion with br he is certain we won't be one trick ponies next year. Sounds like br won't be using a definite formation, but he'll look at each individual game b4 deciding. Like he did at Swansea. This was one of Rd failings, not having a back up plan when things went wrong. I don't care much which formation we decide on as long as we win, and we play an attractive type of football again. HH.
