A good performance tonight I thought from the bhoys. what I took from the game:
We look fit and sharp for the time of year!
Brown, bitton, johansen and Mackay-Stevens are the 1st names on the team sheet for Wednesday!
We closed down well when we didn't have possession
Cifti done well I thought when he came on could be a good addition!

The downside. I thought our distribution from the back was terrible, boyata was slack at times, fisher when he came on gave the ball away too many times or put it in the stand!
I think we look vulnerable at the back still as emilio is still making the same mistakes getting caught under the ball!
Still not convinced we have enough firepower up front to see us through to group stages!

What's your thoughts ed007.

{Ed007's Note - Pre-season matches are about getting fitness and sharpness up to scratch but it's always nice to win games. I thought GMS looked really sharp tonight though and he could play a big part in our Euro campaign. I'm hoping the defence will look a bit more comfortable with VvD in there partnering Boyata.}

Thought the team looked good tonight, slow start but we gradually took control. Thought our no 7 looked good last night for the short space of time he was on the pitch.

Keep in mind Boyata has hardly played over the last couple of years and was always going to be rusty to start. Hopefully we can build his confidence up so that when he does get fully up to scratch (match fitness wise) he also has the confidence which once made him a target for a club like Man City

3 goals in 3 games ed thaw good going! Maybe signing GMS an Armstrong in January was a master stroke!

We knew Denayer was going a while ago (and VVD may follow?)- Mathews leaving was a surprise, so we have left ourselves very short of quality and experience in defence.
Boyata may come good, but we could be out of Europe by then? The club should have brought in a couple of solid defenders, that were reliable and fit as soon as possible.

So a fine 1-0 win over real sociedad .a clean sheet after conceding 5 to Dukla Pumperston.don't you just love consistency

Still, a win is a win and I'll take any win whenever and however it comes

Hail Hail

Heard first 25 mins were tough. After that we played much better.

2 more warm up games against Starjnan and we should be fine.

A few plus points from tonight`s game.
Janko: nice touch and very fast.
Boyata fitted in really well good pace & again nice first touch attacked headers at corners
Ciftci: Came on to a rousing cheer and helped make the goal and had another chance, ran down loose balls, got in about it.
Fisher: played well
So all in all a better performance and the guys got to stretch their legs a bit more .

I think it was a better performance versus everything else we have seen in theses pre season " friendly " games
Pretty physical bunch which is good for us.real game versus strolling around
Remember the Dukla game we made wholesale change at half time and had our development squad on for most of the second half.thats when the majority of the Dukla goals were scored
Tonight. Ciftci came on and immediately made a difference. he knows how to play off GMS
Janko looks the part.his first start after less than a week in the squad
I think Boyata will settle down especially with VVD at his side
Armstrong looked a bit off the pace
Bitton was immense
We get Johansen, Emilio, Scott Brown back to last seasons performance levels, we have a great engine room.
We will not miss Mathews ( did well for us in patched but too injury prone )
Charlie is a back four cover utility player at best. PLEASE don't play him midfield. too slow and final ball wanting
Griffiths looked lean, sharp and hungry. can't wait to see his interaction with Ciftci
Forest, Stokes. superflous to our needs

Ed, any truth that Celtic are after Tom Boyd as cover for left back?

Any word on a left back? Surely not sticking with the liability that is Izaguirre for another year?

Izzy was cracking last year! We do need cover but he had an excellent season!

Agree with his domestic performances however doesn't cut it at european level. Was talking to Hondurans who said that their national team is a lot more solid when he doesn't play aswell

Agree0 Disagree2

10 Jul 2015 21:14:49
He stood out a mile as being utterly incompetent in the Honduran's World Cup Campaign in 2014 to be honest ….and I am a fan normally (because he has a really tough job at Celtic Park due to lack of quality further up field on the left (plus the lack of consistency in playing partner); YOU CANNOT DOUBT HIS EFFORT AND ENDEAVOUR ….

10 Jul 2015 21:20:36
To be fair, the Hondurans World Cup campaign involved kicking & trying to bully the opposition, bit like the old Uruguayan teams.

10 Jul 2015 21:33:55
true Jbhoy, but he didn't kick and bully very effectively either because he got caught and sent off!

It doesn't bother me if we bring in all free transfers or pay a couple of hundred thousand as long as they are good for us. Gone are the days of spending 5/6 million on one player . We have to except that but we should expect to receive quality players if we're going to have any hope in qualifying for the CL and I only dearly hope that RD is having the last say in who is coming in

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - But according to Pedro those days aren't over, Tony, he says we could afford £6-8 million on a player. You're not implying our CEO lied to us are you?}

10 Jul 2015 17:12:55
Lol nooooo but I think we all know how that goes

Only Peter Lawwell could go into a pound shop with a pound come out with 75p and 3 purchased items. The club with the car boot mentality.

TTTS I agree. Spending even £5m on strengthening team with a couple of players, only increasing chances of securing £20m CL group stages revenue.

If we fail to reach group stages due to lack of investment, I can see a revolt against Lawwell from fans
