In a sport how do you get better at it? well practice, yes, but almost as important is coming up against playetrs who are better than yourself maybe not in all areas of the game but in some. Now this i feel is a problem that has dogged scottish football for a long time.
This is why i feel teams like Celtic and Rangers have stagnated esp in europe recently. There are few if any players out in the league who are better than them in enough areas for them to be able to help improve their game than what they face at training. And yes other teams will raise their game often but do the players on the opposition actually get better for the experience? no they dont as they do not come up against the better technical players like Celtic and Rangers have or have had often enough for it to have an effect on their game. Which means when they get into europe they are usually out at the first hurdle, because we do not have enough people in the league with these better attributes or will to become better or have the youth system to set them up with the basics they need to be able to take advantage of these situations. Hence all clubs sign a multitude of foreigh journeymen wheo do little if anything to help the situation as clubs are in search of the holy grail of uncovering the next Larsson or Laudrup on the cheap.
This isnt just an Old firm problem, most of the other (mostly spl im talking here but other leagues too) are far too closley matched all round. Yes there arew discrepancies in points totalled etc but you are not going to get better at anything if you consistantly play opponents at a similar level to yourself, you will stagnate and really be left with no scope for improvement. You can only really be as good as the others around you which is why when we get players outside this mould we have little chance to keep them (money aside here)
Look at our players who have gone down south. Now Steven Fletcher is probably a good example here. We knew he was talented at hibs, but if he stayed in scotland his whole career would he be the player he is now? i dont think so. If you are the best of the rest you will remeain that way and some might be able to improve to close to your level. This does not happen enough in scotland. And in scotish sport as a whole. This is what makes european football so important to Celtic anyways. It is the only place that they are going to come up against players better all round at the game than them to try and learn and possibly excel ( i know not very often that has happened recently).
We dont do enough to bring in young players who have enough of the basics to be able to take advantage of these sorts of learning exxperiences. Some make it but they are few and far between. We will all remember the kid at school who would run rings round everyone else ( i liked to think of myself as that kid at school, no ego trip here lol) but you will only reach a certain point of development as a player playing with others at a lower level than you and then look to move on from there.
I dont really have the answers to these problems. But i think there are too many clubs in scotland that help bring these issues to the fore we have too little spread too far and i just hope the plans currently being implimented by the SFA go some way to a remedy for this.
I think this has made sense, I cant be arsed proof reading, i seldom do lol

Some rather interesting shenanigans going on over Ibrox way today, with Ellis claiming he was promised 24.9% of Rangers shares by Whyte last May.
I can't for the life of me understand why this would be brought up now, if it was genuine.
1. It's almost a year since Whyte took over, so why now.
2. Whyte would still be majority shareholder with a 60% shareholding so would own the club and be in control of all decisions.
3. The supposed transfer of the floating charge from the Rangers FC Group Ltd (formerly Wavetower Ltd) to Liberty Capital is a red herring, as Whyte owns 100% of Liberty Capital and Liberty Capital owns 100% of the RFC Group Ltd. Essentially, Ellis having a 24.9% holding in Rangers IA would not benefit him in any way in relation to the floating charge.
I can only see two reasons:
1. Ellis believes the club will be sold imminently and wants a cut of the sale price that Whyte expects to receive. The question here is, why did he not do this the minute Rangers went into administration. Waiting until now reduces his chance of getting anything significantly.
2. Whyte and Ellis are in collusion and this is part of their strategy of leading the club into liquidation. With Ellis taking Whyte through the courts, it creates a time delay, a messy legal situation and makes it less attractive to any purchaser to try and take the club out of administration.
My money is on this ploy being part of their "switcheroo" to drive the club into liquidation. Whyte's floating charge of £18m+ then kicks in and he either retains Ibrox as an asset and leases it to the Newco or sells it to them.
Not bad for an investment of £1.

Point two for me mate. These two are in this together. If you were a buyer would you touch this toxic, debt ridden company with a barge pole? Possibly,if the break up figure was good.Would you touch it with the threat of more legal action being probable? Never.Newco was always Whytes game plan, and it's a cert now.........green jhedi

Why do fellow Tims still persist with using the Old Firm name to describe ourselves and the tax dodging Runners up? Isn't it about time that we actually stood on our own two feet and distanced ourselves from their shameful and deplorable actions. By using this term we are siding with them and condoning them ripping off the public purse, police, ambulance and countless small businesses. They even have the cheek to wheel out old soldiers but refuse to contribute to the finances used to fund the army etc. Surely they have crossed a line now that can not be forgiven, or forgotten, by not just fans of THE CHAMPIONS but every honest, tax paying citizen in the UK. NO GUILT BY ASSOCIATION........NO OLD FIRM!!

Just wanted to say , i dont think Lenny will be manager next season. Having seen his interviews over the last couple of days, it is obvious he will move on. Cant blame the Guy, after bomb threats, being attacked at tynecastle, having to get security due to the death threats etc, would you stay in your job with all that going on?? I wouldnt ! I am sure he will feel he has stuck 2 fingers up to all the critics and bigots by winning the league but time to go now into a job with a bit less stress !!

Obviously we have a long controversial relationship with Scottish refs and dubious decisions - some for many against - but I have watched a lot of English Prem games and some of their officials are absolutely rank rotten as well.
In my view we will never move to England (in my lifetime anyway) but IF.... I reckon the decisions in some games would cause much the same debate.
Man U and Chelsea (recent examples only) appear to get the 'benefit of the doubt' quite a lot and there are big mistakes in almost every game.
